I was thinking the same thing. I found a product called floor and tunnel shield II that is a bit expensive but should work well. I will add it to my winter project list along with adding AC.

How do you stick that 'tunnel shield' stuff well enough that heat and gravity and truck bouncing does not make it come off? That's why I put my insulation on top.

I do not want to drill holes through the doghouse.

According to the website it is adhesive backed and the adhesive is rated for 450 F. My idea is to use this stuff mainly on the doghouse area. I probably will add insulation on the inside under the mat as well as others have done.

Reviving an older thread, opposed to starting a new. We are seriously looking at a 1083 as our next camper platform. One of our big concerns is noise level. Anyone ever checked the decibel level inside their 'insulated' cabs? I use a free app called Decibel Meter on my iPhone.

Thanks
-Chris

There are many YouTube videos that have what your looking for. I’ve seen several of them that even use a decibel meter before and after the upgrade to show the difference.

Some decibel readings here:

That could have been the definitive, one-stop how-to article if it had amounts of each product used.

;)

Seriously, the components needed to do the task seem to be pretty universal. What's never the same are discussions of how much of each to order. Realizing that there will always be some leeway depending on the individual is a given. But I'm getting really close to starting my cab and after all these years and articles and youtube videos I *still* don't know just how much of everthing I need to order (and at the price they get per gal or sheet I really don't need to piss away a couple hundred bucks on leftovers).

LOL

B-Dog, was that your build or someone else?

If it was you, was that a sun/moon roof in the turret area? If so, got any info on that install?

Thanks, Tom.

I seen the "LED Lighting", "So you want an LMTV", "Cheap Tricks" and "Sold", etc., but I missed this one o_O.

Thanks!!!

You'll never get a definitive answer since it's subject to how much money, or more importantly, how much effort YOU want to put into it. You could do half as much as what's shown above and see measurable results. Or you could do 10 times as much. Just understand the returns are diminishing.

If you're looking for more of a square footage answer, that's easy enough to measure/estimate. If you're looking at Lizard skin, order 2 gallons of each sound deadener and insulation for the cab interior. Most of that stuff is on Amazon so just order short and then if you want to do more, order more.

do a one up-em and put a 48" dome. Unimog 404 forest fire rigs actually had them back in early 60's
That looks very cool but I bet you’d have a hard time finding one, or find one that would fit. If you did I bet the cost would be mind numbing.
The sun roof is nice but not sure if I would go that direction or not…only time will tell. :p

But it is DIFFERENT.
Really need to mount a pair of 50's up there and turn that into a ball turret :tank:

If I could find a couple of working 50’s without paying a kidneys, a right arm and a left nut for them and they were legal to possess I would!!!
.

Oh, and after reading all this - it is not a reference to YOU. Just the you in the nitwit doing stupid stuff. NOT YOU personally!

Yes sir. A lot like these HMMWV registration problems.
Silencers, 50bmg, handgun on the streets of New York.
All of the above should be legal.
Second Amendment doesn't specify the tools you can use - but the ATF (Government) can say what they won't allow.
I see that as a problem too.

AND if you are stupid, you should be jailed.
Arrested more than one time for the same thing should earn you a flogging.
That will help your mind work a little better - and that should stop a third time you exercised your stupidity.
Public Hanging on the street for third offences...

Okay, I guess that is why I am not a politician.

Yes Sir, I too would love to have a couple of automatic 50's
I'm not greedy. Maybe just one ;-)
Or more exciting - a Quad 50!

One M134 minigun would work for me.

Some decibel readings here:

Thats what I was looking for! He’s claiming 53 decibels, I checked my sprinter van today and at highway speed it was an average of 83 and a max of 91 decibels!

lmtv quieter than a sprinter, by far!!
Thanks
Chris
