..or why we do not have some manuals, or have had manuals removed per DOD 'guidance'.

Distribute only as per the following distribution restriction statement as defined in Chapter 17 of DA Pam 25-40, Army Publishing: Action Officers Guide.
Statement A. "Approved for public release; distribution is unlimited."
Statement B. "Distribution authorized to U.S. Government agencies only."
Statement C. "Distribution authorized to U.S. Government agencies and their contractors only."
Statement D. "Distribution authorized to the DOD and DOD contractors only."
Statement E. "Distribution authorized to the DOD components only."

Not exactly rocket science, but sure confuses a few........thanks for reminder
For us civilians, if it's NOT Distribution "A", it's a No-NO, which is pretty simple. Only confusion is in manuals printed before about the mid 60's, which do not have any such statements, unless they were reprinted later and had it added to the front cover sheet.

Thank you for the reminder/explanation. I have had several communications with different DOD personal about things that had to be removed.

On the flip side, interestingly, we routinely have military personal register here for TM's they don't have access to!

That is because all the military manuals are now 'on the cloud' and their MOS (Military Occupational Specialty) as noted in their CAC (Common Access Card) does not authorize them to access manuals above their level of supposed competence (IE., battalion level people cannot see the -34 and -35P because those are for higher echelons of maintenance, and end users cannot see any level that does not end with a -1 in the first position of the level code).

Mike is correct. BUT, and there is always a but, there are three different ways for solders to access the TM's in the cloud.

1. Ask a LAR. Logistic Assistance Representative. All major commands, AMCOM, CECOM, TROSCOM and a few more, have guys who not only help with logistic problems, but are (some more then others) subject matter experts. And if they do not know the answer to your question, they can contact someone who IS able to answer the question. They will always help when someone needs information and or a TM.

2.Create an access account to the Cloud, asking for access to TM's and other information. If they need access to TM's above their level, the Security NCO/Officer can help out getting higher level TM's. The Security guy has to sign off on each and every person in the unit who has to access the cloud anyway.

3. The Chief. The units CWO can access almost anything.

4. A back door is always the Ed Center. The Education Center is allowed to access almost anything, to provide the soldiers the materials for MOS studying. And to study for advancement to a higher grade can often get you higher level TM's without a problem.

Maybe its time to see what we can do about getting at TM's that are fairly old, and still restricted. I will try and ask someone in TACOM and CECOM about the Who, Where, What and how. Applying for a F.O.I. is a very slow deal. Takes about a year to get an answer.
