Hello, I have a simple question. Should the front loader on the FLU419 be able to lift up the front end so the tired can be changed?

Roll the bucket to max forward, Lift and have at it.

(EDIT: Properly set check valves should not allow the bucket to lift the front of the FLU)

You should bring some (get some) blocks to hold up the truck - in case of a hydraulic failure.
You don't want to die because you took a short cut.

With the pressure relief setting as configured, the FLU is not capable of raising the front-end up. I have seen two options; One of them is to roll the bucket underneath with a combination of hydraulics and slight forward travel. The other option will void your warranty.

Since it's a 1990, there is no warranty left! I was able to get the front end up with blocks!

Now with new tires on, I'm using her and scoop with the front bucket but it can't lift the weight. Is this a common problem?

Sad to say yes.

I have read many times in these forums that "a full bucket" isn't going to be lifted.
To be honest, I am not sure why or don't remember the details of why.

Glad you were able to lift the front end using the bucket.

My advice... screw the pressure relief in until you can lift the front off the ground. I've been using mine like that for three years. Also get rid of those check valves mentioned, totally counterproductive. Sometimes I have to back off the controls when I get belt squeal on the pump, but that's the price of a crappy loader duct taped to a WAY too small pump and the ridiculously under-pressure specs from uncle sam.

And I can, and do, lift a full bucket of gravel

Did ypu change anything such as the check valves or regulator?

Is the FLU-419 really so different from a normal 406 with the Schmidt FL-4 loader? Pressure relief? Check valves? Regulator? The normal 406 front hydraulic system is pressure limited only by the belt slippage, IMHO, so tighten your pump belt. The front bucket should lift a load of gravel, and lift the front of the truck.

My FLU419 will lift a bucket of gravel, but won't lift the front off the ground. However, I can roll the bucket and lift it slightly off the ground. I have never had the belt slip regardless of the load.
