New to the forum, Hello.

My M37 fuel tank is missing / gone...and I understand an S10 tank will do? Any thoughts or ideas other than this? Has anyone modified an s10 tank to fit the stock sending unit and fuel pickup? If not am I stuck changing the sending unit and gauge Etc. to 12V

From what I've heard, the S10 tank is a pretty good fit. It does hold less than the stock M37 tank, however.

I read somewhere that a tank from some model of full-sized Ford van will fit, and has a largaer capacity than the S10 tank. Unfortunately, I have not been able to find where I read that, and don't recall the model or year of the van.

I have a friend that will make me one as close to original as possible, problem is I have nothing to measure. I wonder if someone in this forum would have the original measurements? and especially the fuel filler vent line and the gauge / pickup measurements

Keep in mind that the M101 generator trailers all had an M37 tank in them and I'd bet 99% of them just go along for the ride and aren't used. You might see if you could talk a trailer owner out of one!

When I purchased my M37, the original tank was not there. The truck had a rusty 12, yes, 12 gallon tank. I purchased and installed the S10 20 gallon tank. The factory tank was about 25 gallons. My cost delivered of the 20 gallon tank was about $110 3 years back. Fabbed up my straps and eye bolts to hold the tank. Had a muffler shop make a piece of pipe to connect the hose from the filler to the smaller tank size, (another hose). Cost at the muffler shop was $5. Adapter pipe (exhaust pipe) was about 4" long. Here are some shots of the tank during install. Had to make my own metal filler piece under lock ring for the new tank to fit the factory sending unit. Gauge reads fairly accurate, these were never all that accurate from the factory. You will need to adjust the float arm (bend) since this tank is not as deep.

Does anyone have contact info for M37Dale? I had suggested he check out full sized Ford van tanks. From his response, it sounds as though he found one that's good fit with good capacity. Unfortunately, I lost the link I thought I had saved. I'm trying to get in touch with him to suggest he share what he found. I left a message in this thread about a month ago, but it does not appear he has been back since then. I just sent him a private message, but not sure that will go through if he does not visit the site.

If an Admin is reluctant to give out his email address without permission, I'm fine with them sending my email to him and asking him to get in touch.

Hi John
Which Ford van is it from???
I have no idea, other than that it is a full sized Ford van. I read somewhere about it long ago, but lost the link to the description. I suggested to @M37Dale that he see if he could find one. When he posted that he did, I made a couple of posts in this thread and sent him a private message asking him to share the info. This would be great to know. Unfortunately, he has not responded. In fact, I don’t think he has been back on this site since I first asked.
