Steel Soldiers now has a few new forums, read more about it at: New Munitions Forums!

Thanks. The hmmwv does not use power steering fluid.
Trans and steering system use same kind of fluid.
Looking for that fluid now.The hmmwv does not use power steering fluid.

I went to two places yesterday looking for dexron 6. No go. They said it sells as soon as they get it.Looking for that fluid now.
.....but with what you just said, then it is better to run dex III in the transmission as well, correct? So DEX II was replaced by DEX III in all applications a long time ago.
Then about 20 years ago they came out with DEX VI
Not long after DEX VI came out GM started having an increased failure rate in transfer cases and gearboxes. They put out a bulletin that basically says that DEX VI should be used only in automatic transmissions, where it is fully backwards compatible, but in all other applications you should use their "manual gearcase oil" or DEX III. The manual gearcase oil was just relabeled DEX III
In the newest version of the HMMWV the military says to use DEX VI in all systems that use automatic transmission fluid. That makes sense for the military because having a few gearboxes or pumps fail is simpler to deal with that multiple transmission fluids in inventory, and worrying about some dumb private grabbing the wrong one.
I personally run DEX III in my power steering.
there are plenty of people that flushed the power steering system and run power steering fluid.
The transmission will do fine with either DEX VI or DEX III. They will both work the same for you......but with what you just said, then it is better to run dex III in the transmission as well, correct?
Just got it out of the garage today to take the picture and going to my office. It will not get wet, i guess.OMG,,,,, plug those holes!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! otherwise it will be trash if not already!
Thanks RWH, and thanks for answering all my questions.Looks good to me…turbos run at 220 before fan clutch kicks in, verify at some point it’s working and fan turns on and off as it should.
Yes, was planning to use a mechanical manometer to double check.as long as it shows oil pressure and it goes up and down with engine RPMs.
Don't trust the gauges to be accurate, just keep an eye on how they behave,, and if they start acting differently then worry.
As long as the fan kicks in, temp drops 10-20 degrees then kicks off again, then cooling system is probably good.
(my first oil gauge read 0 at hot idle, and never got above 30. Second one with new sender read about 20 hot idle, and 50 high RPM. Current sender reads about 30 hot idle and 60-65 cold oil at moderate RPMs.)
That would be a very large (tall) manometer!Yes, was planning to use a mechanical manometer to double check.
