What has happened when this method is tested by a CHP who cites whatever violation? Either they let you go, have a nice day, what a cool humvee OR they pull their book out and start writing.

Hey, I get it all roses to have it setup this way, titled, registered, insured - ring all bells and numerous folks here have done so. What I've still not heard is much field reporting on what happens when the vehicle does get pulled over for any of many dumbshit moves: speeding, running a stop sign, etc. Sure you get the ticket for the obvious violation but has everyone then not had anything written up on the Montana thing? And if so, how was it beat in court?

I do appreciate the continued engagement as it can surely be perceived as me just being a total A..hole . The thing is there are so few incidents reported where CHP has had one of these on the side of the road and either had or didn't have issues with the out of state and CA driver.

Maybe I just make a leap of faith and do as other and cross fingers not having to even have chat with CHP on the shoulder of the road.

well , I understand that issue , not to incriminate myself any further , I may work and “live” in ca. for the week but I go home . I have an az address and dl now , this state that I “had” lived in for the past 60+ years sucks on every level that they can when it affects my life. I am counting the days until I blow this s*it stand and go to free America. May get caught but don’t care , not using the funvee as a daily driver anyway and it sits in the garage when not in my own parade 🎉. As screwed as ca is , the chp or pd isn’t looking for the “old white guy” driving an old ass mv to screw with. ( your experience may vary). I’ve done my due diligenceto be a legal beagle , they want the control I won’t give. So ….. don’t want to go down the rabbit hole any farther. If I had WAY more time and money I would fight it all the way to the top , I thing this state has more of a chance of falling into the ocean than letting me register my truck .

sigh...
no wonder why so many posts and so much smoke and shuffling around with obtuse comments and plenty of crickets. It clearly is a situation that is gray at best and no sane person wants to stand up waving a flag to get mugged by the CA govt in all forms. Seems like this whole thing is generally a stealth mode operation blessed by the good fairy.

The reg services tout how legal it all is but seem short on citing specific case law or actual situations where it has been field tested.

I'm beginning to settle into a place where you roll the dice and take your chances. Enjoy and deal with the shiiite if and when it hits the fan. got it.
