What engines will fit in an M37?

Hello gents,

My buddy just picked up a well used m37 with a seized engine. His goal is to get it where it will reliably putt around the farm and help with some chores. What engine should he replace it with if we can't find a 230?

Should be able to find a 230 pretty darned common engine. I have seen just about any and every kind of engine that has been put into an M37. I even believe that Vintage Power wagon has an adapter kit you can buy to replace the 230 with a 318.

Small Block Chevy with a TH350 or TH400 will fit.
Will require drive shaft modifications.

Might cost less to find a 230 though...
