Actually, we get tickets for driving on that sand pile (it's not a "dune" it's where the graders push the excess sand as they maintain the city part of the beach) and they likely shouldn't have been playing there. The pile is normally much taller, but the recent hurricane washed it down a bit.

They did the typical "tourist move" and tried to turn, then stopped. And that's where you'll sit until the shovels come out. Rookie move.... LOL

Sand with no lockers and too much wheel torque. What are the 17 other servicemen doing?

Supervising. Anytime you have more than three soldiers in a detail one of them transforms into a supervisor. This is even worse with civilian contractors. The effect seems to be exponential such that a sufficiently large detail has only chiefs and no braves.

Isn't that the purpose of a CTIS system? Too lazy to push a button?
The vast majority of operators don't know how to use the CTIS and definitely don't know what MODE does or how to manually shift down. Also they tend to not realize that it takes TIME for the CTIS to do it's thing so they push the button and immediately full send the truck to it's doom with no MODE and the tires still at 50 psi. Soldiers know only pedal to the floor and "truck go!" or "truck stuck!"....... talking to transportation guys that are 27 years old and have 6 teeth left in their skull is a waste of air.

Also - it's training. So now it's training for the recovery crew. Hell it might have been on purpose. The military does "simulate" obstacles for the troops to overcome so an OC (observer/controller) might have just proclaimed the truck "notionally disabled".
