Door hinge nutsert issue- how to fix?

The nutsert broke loose on a door hinge. I cut the head off thinking I could push it through the B pillar but the back of the bolt/nutsert is hitting the B pillar support. (See photo)

my guess is I have to remove the support to get the bolt out and to install the new hinge bolt. But before I go to all that trouble I thought I would ask for advice. Anyone have this issue before and how did you fix it.

That’s a great solution. Didn’t even consider that. But I will likely remove the B pillar bracket so all of the hinge bolts are the same. I’m assuming there is enough room behind the bracket to get a bolt back there.

Alternatively, get a circular wood hole/dowel maker and drill out the area behind the bolt/rivnut and push through. Simple and fast and clean.

Cover with duct tape and paint drab green.

I pulled out the B pillar support bracket. Unfortunately, the nutsert is located in the raised channel of the pillar. So no access to the bolt. Drilled a hole behind the bracket and it’s just too small to retrieve bolt. Will get a larger bit and remove with a magnet.

could have cut the bolt shorter and let it fall in the channel but there is no way to retrieve it and I don’t want it to rattle around.

Update- had to drill out a 3/4” hole to remove the broken blind nut. Too tight for me to try to weld another nut in there so I if I ever have to remove this part of the hinge I will have to remove the B pillar support bracket again.

Weld a 3/4” arm to the nut. It will block the it from spinning. A dab of silicone or JB Weld, and it will stay in place for reuse.

[Edit - if you don’t have a welder, cut and tap a thin piece of flat stock that is 3/4” long. Then JB Weld or silicone in place.]
