+1 on draining the tank, cleaning the whole tank out, wiping it clean, and starting over. In addition to the main seal, the fuel tank cap does have a vent in it that can let humidity and water in.

BTW: that spring in the fuel filter and one of the associated two small o-rings are essential to keeping unfiltered diesel from leaking past the filter. I would not run the machine without the spring in place because that risks clogging the injectors. The other small o-ring keeps fuel from leaking out the bottom.

All the best,

How much tranny fluid do you add in the fuel tank?
How often?
Is this a common practice?
Or should i just stick with what i have been using Lucas and Seafoam?

thank you
I think that was ok advice decades ago, but ATF, engines, and fuels have really changed. Old transmission fluid is not anywhere close to new transmission fluid as the properties have significantly changed, including friction additives, and lower detergent levels. I would only add a detergent designed for diesel fuel.

I would stick to SeaFoam / Lucas, whichever you prefer.

All the best,
