Welcome from the Northern Sonoran Desert!
Sorry for the thread hijack, but...
Back in late '83, I started restoring an armored M966 TOW missile carrier for a client in Prescott, AZ.
It was one of the original 24 test bed trucks from AMG, S/N 00024. Several of them were sold as excess by the Kenosha Military Museum, another of which were to Ah-nold.
Took me 11 months, mainly because it was really beat up, and there was no avenue for parts back then; AMG wouldn't even talk to me (they were really pissed). I finally connected with a licensed exporter guy, and got what I needed from him at list $ +++.
I had just about every 3-letter agency come to my place because of it, the usual attitude was it was stolen. They looked at the VIN plate, made satphone calls, and eventually left. Reason being, the test bed trucks were never Gov't property, so they had no claim to it.
It was finally road-able, and the owner had a lot of fun with it, as they were so unusual in private hands. Eventually, it was just a rented prop for movie companies and the guy made a LOT of $ off that.
Last time I saw it there must've been 20 coats of different paint on it.
Now back to our regularly scheduled program...
