Anybody have a bird just fly right into your HMMWV windshield?

This is the SECOND time in a just over 12 months that one of these birds has apparently flown right into my windshield while parked in my driveway. Just me?

Not a hmmwv but in another lifetime I ran a NAPA distribution center.
Around 330am one of my 21ft freightliner box trucks called me to report an owl had blown out the right half windshield on a small 2 lane road in bayou country. The windshields were 2 piece. Driver cleaned up the mess and continued the rest of his route.......

Notice that the reflection in the windshield is of trees and sky.

They must see something inside or a reflection. I had a red tailed hawk full dive into my house window once. It may have thought one of my kids toys was a mouse or it saw a mouse in a reflection . It stunned itself and stood next to the house for 4 hours before flying off.

Do to the fact that is flat glass it has a reflective property that makes it look like there is no barrier and that the glass is not there. MaIny know that birds will hit house windows as well. It seems to be worse in the early morning or evening as when the sun is lower and hits the glass more directly.

Never had it happen. Mine just collect bugs and test their luck with rocks flying at them.

In my vast and long experience, this is a phenomenon confined mostly to HMMWVs and related vehicles.

Last rock chip I picked up was completely out of my field of view, way off to the side of the glass, so no interference with my vision.
It was, however, almost dead center on the dash camera lens.

I feel like it’s gotta be because the windshield is vertical. Yesterday I was walking from the back yard toward the Humvee and a flock? of those same kinds of birds kinda dipped down and flew across the top. I could see how one could fall out of formation just slightly and SMACK.

I have a 4 man soft top with big back window rear curtain. EVERYTHING seemed to end up in the bed and got sucked into the cab under that back window. I finally picked up some aluminum U channel for the curtain to sit in with a bead of silicone underneath (and a bit more in the dips) and between that and installing a horse stall mat in the cab it made a world of difference.

I thought the standard glass was designed to stop artillery so how could a little bird damage the glass.

Standard glass is just that.. standard.. same, maybe not even as good as a normal automotive windshield. The up armored vehicles had a bullet proof glass, but there are videos of those only stopping a few rounds of small arms fire. Sustained fire you're gonna wanna duck.
