Throttle Pedal Travel and Kick Down Switch

Even with a NOS throttle cable I am seeing the pedal does not travel far enough to activate the kick down switch. It will move enough to set the switch, but then it will just barely touch it at WOT.

I've checked the following and nothing seems to be adjustable so I am confused as to what is causing this? I also noticed the pedal has another inch or so to go when the throttle cable gets tight before it would be bottomed on the floor. Is that typical? Seems like if you mash the pedal and are hard stopping the link on the IP that puts a lot of stress on the IP and cable? Can anyone confirm what their pedal travel looks like in relation to the kick down and floor of the cab?

Checked:
  • NOS throttle cable (so length, etc should be right)
  • Bracket on injection pump is non-adjustable
  • Pedal bracket/kickdown switch non-adjustable

Looks like the kick-down switch is bolted in the wrong hole. Try moving it towards the firewall in the next bracket.

The kick down switch can only go in one hole set as the cutout for it is pretty snug to the housing. I ended up ended up bending the bracket it mounts to a bit to move the switch closer to the firewall + the flat section of the pedal rod and that did the trick. It was easier to tweak that bracket than it looked.

Please post a photo of the bent bracket so that other SS members who may have a similar condition can see how you solved the issue.

I have bent mine too. Pretty easy. Wondered how it got bent in the first place...big boots and dirt I bet.
