First of all...Howdy! First time post for me, but I've been lurking about the forum for some time now.

I bought this M1028 back in April last year. Spotted it it on craigslist...went to check it out...next thing I know, I'm driving it home. Anyway, it's is super-clean, rust free AND straight.....kind of a rarity these days. Even the frame is still showing its factory black paint. Pretty much all stock, outside of the 4 in. lift and tires. I've been into squarebody's going on 35 yrs and own 5 total, including another M1031 CUCV that mostly hides in the barn.

I'm guessing some fellas on the base were bored one day and decided to spice this one one up. I've seen my share of green, camo, tan CUCV's, but I must say that I've never seen one painted like this. I thought the owner painted this way from what I saw in the craigslist photos, but when I went to see it, I noticed it was actually CARC paint, along with having the bumper and door markings.

Anyways, just thought I'd say hello, share some pics, and see what y'all think.

Well that is pretty amazing! Welcome to the Outfit! No telling how it ended up with that paint job, but I imagine somebody had to have a little "pull" to be able to paint it like that. Good looking truck!

I am more interested in the M1031 you mentioned. Any pictures or history/status of it?

I picked up the M1031 oh...probably 20 years ago at an equipment auction for $275. It was complete, minus the engine. Later on, a buddy of mine swapped a gas engine into his M1008, so I ended up with his 6.2 and installed it into my M1031. It has the generator and air compressor in the bed...all of which works. The only thing missing is the governor unit that controls the throttle. It's hibernating in my barn right now. I actually fired it up this past summer to get everything circulating....dropped two batteries in it...and it literally fired up like I parked it there yesterday. Before that, it was probably sitting for 4 or 5 years.

Here's a crappy pic....I know...it looks more like a shelf right now. I need more free-time for my projects!!

Conversation at JBLM: "Hey LT, we want to spend hours and days on a custom paint job on a 40 year old CUCV right before we send it to DRMO!!" "Sure guys we don't got nutting better to do!!!

Nope.
I know what you mean. I wouldn't have believed that the army would do a custom paint job like this either. But what I can't explain is this YouTube video...

A while back, and with some dumb luck, I found this video of my truck when it was auctioned off by GovLiquidation.com way back in December 2014. So, it would appear that it was painted this way before it got into civilian hands. I know the title of the YouTube video says M1010, which is obviously wrong, but sometime in its life, the driver door was replaced with one from an ambulance since it has an M1010 data plate and then it was painted this way. So, I guess the mystery is....by who?

I remember when several trucks went through the auctions painted like that from FT Lewis. They were range safety vehicles if I remember correctly. They were being sold directly from the military.
Thanks, IdahoJoe...that is interesting. I wonder if there are any other survivors ot there?

According to my tailgate/bumper markings, I believe this one was from JBLM's Directorate of Logistics Installation Maintenance Division (DOL-IMD) Class IX (CL-IX)....whatever that means. I was able to find this from an old JBLM telephone directory.
