CAT OEM Parts Source?

Does anyone have a CAT OEM parts source that is good to deal with? My local dealer here in Kalifornia is Peterson CAT and they never answer their phone and don't call back if you leave a message. I sat on hold for the parts department for over an hour on one call and on three calls selected the option for them to call me and never got a return call. Empire CAT in Rena was helpful for some bolts but won't sell me injectors. Apparently CAT keeps a close eye on dealers shipping parts into other dealers territory.

Anyway, I have an injector fiasco going on and need to get a set headed my way ASAP. Also a warning for the group, stay away from First Truck Parts. I bought a set of injectors from them that their site said were New genuine CAT part# 387-9428, which is a new injector that supersedes part# 328-2582 which are the current injectors in my C7. I called to verify all of this and that they had them in stock before ordering. Total fiasco of no response for a week when they told me they would ship same day. After 6 phone calls over the course of a week and a half they finally told me they didn't have them and were waiting for them to arrive. Finally received them yesterday only to find out what they sent me are part# 10R-4763 which is the remanufactured version of the old injector that was superseded. The part# for the remanufactured version of the new injector is 20R-8059.

So, now they aren't answering their phone or responding to my emails. Buyer beware. Planning to stop buy Peterson CAT on my way home today in hopes of finding a helpful parts guy, but more than likely pricing will be full retail. If anyone can point me towards a reliable source with decent pricing, it would be much appreciated.

They may not be able to get actual new ones. I suspect that *new* injector production isn't yielding enough volume for the parts and service departments on top of new engine production and military demand for spare parts, etc.

What's wrong with your original set? Are they not rebuildable? Not sure who's doing that but I've seen videos.....

The reman injectors should be just as good as new - all the wear parts and filters, etc are replaced when they get rebuilt. If they were a good price I would just use them.

I would use them if they were the new injectors that superseded the original ones. The originals were apparently problematic, and from what I have read, the newer injector, among other changes, has screens to prevent debris from a failed HUEI pump taking out the injectors.

I never call for that reason, I go there in person to order parts then go back typically the next day and pick them up. And even there in person parts guys are typically not the friendliest. I don’t think they like dealing with individuals as customers.

Empire CAT in Reno had them new.

Ah I see. Interesting.

WRT the HEUI pump failures and injector contamination..... I'm about to do my third 3126 HEUI pump and don't anticipate needing injectors this time either. Haven't done injectors on any of the pump replacements so far but also these 3126 trucks seem to have serious HEUI pump crib death problems so none of them have more than about 12k miles on them.

Have not had a HEUI issue with any C7 FMTV yet. Bound to happen eventually but whatever is causing the low mileage/age/design related failures of the 3126 doesn't seem to affect the newer HEUI pump design used by the C7.

Are you guys using an additive in your diesel for lubrication to the pump and injectors? Are these trucks sitting a lot between uses? May be related to premature failures. Just a thought.

I’m not using a lubricant additive, although at one point I had asked about that on the forum. I drive my truck regularly. Letting them sit for extended periods, like the military did with my truck, isn’t good. People complain about how unreliable the Pacbrakes are, say they get stuck closed. Yep, if you never use them, the shaft rusts and they get stuck open or closed. They’re fine if you use them.
