I had bought a 003a a couple weeks ago and got lucky. It started up and runs great. So I was bitten by the mep bug and bought 6 more. 3-002a’s and 3-003a’s. They haven’t been run in 10 plus years or more. The best 003 was filled with thick black diesel. I cleaned out all lines, pumps, tank, filters and so on, ran straight sea foam through the system with no filters on prime out of a bucket. Cleaned everything out and after a day and a half it runs great no smoke. The governor and fuel shutoff need to be adjusted. On to the best 002. Fuel was crappy but not tar. Cleaned the same way and in 2 hours running. Fuel shutoff sticky. Next 002 did the same cleaning. New filters but injection pump plunger sticking. Will fix tomorrow. I’m on a roll guys. Looks like a 10 min fix. Thanks for all the info here. The other002 is missing a few parts and the 2 remaining 003’s are stuck from moister in cylinders. Will keep updating.

WOW!!!!! Either you got one hell of a deal or you have a very substantial investment at todays prices.
This should keep you busy for a while. I love my 002's and 003 but the fact of the matter is these have not been made for 30 years and parts have been discontinued years ago. My next one, if any at all will be an 803. Only one generation newer but much better availability of parts. Yet still before computer controls and proprietary scanner needs for repairs.

ok i have and update and a few questions..
#1 mep003a is up and running, no issues to report
#2 mep003a is unstuck.. piston closest to the fan was the issue. very light rust. soaked it in atf and seafoam for a week with heads off and gave it a little love here and there. cylinder wall cleaned up nice and rings do not appear to be siezed.
#1 mep002a is running great but volts are at 140ac. I read that i need to spray some wd40 inside the rotating volt switch? If this is correct it looks sealed
#2 mep002a IP is not rotating internally..I took a IP off another 002 and took it completely apart for practice. it is an older version with a black tag. This IP doesnt rotate either but the tab in the plunger is not broken..i will clean it out and exchange into the #002. I will line up timing mark, install drill bit and see if this engine is a runner. If not i have a new 002 engine. any other tips i should know about this IP?

On the voltage issue are you truly getting 140V or is that just what the gage says??
If it's just what the gage says but you are in fact getting 240ish at the lugs, the issue may be dirty contacts in the AM/VM switch.
You can spray contact cleaner into the switch through the small holes in the back, then exercise the switch vigorously.
If you are truly only getting 140V at the lugs, spraying the switch till' the cows come home isn't going to help, that would be a VR issue.

If you take the original IP and fill it with acetone or Berryman's B12 carb cleaner, let it sit several days, then try pressing in on the cap that rides on the cam to move the plunger. if the plunger frees up, turn the gear and see if the plunger is free to rotate as well. Also try the throttle lever.
Treat it like Gold.... even being a PSU pump it is still worth a small fortune in working condition.... but worth zero if the plunger is broken.

i just went off the gauge for the voltage..I will test it off the lugs tomorrow..i just bought a 5500w-7500w electric garage heater to load test.

As for the IP i think i will take out the original and free it up..i think the plunger may have given up. i need to take the pump off of these and inspect before turning them over..i am learning
If i put the flywheel timing on PC then i should be able to stick 1/8 drill bit into IP and just clean and reinstall? could it be that easy?

The last one I had seized, I had to soak in gunk carb cleaner (it was getting rebuilt anyway) but it was a nightmare getting unstuck

This pump i disassembled last night was hardly stuck..i may have gotten lucky. the wire clip for holding the button went flying and i could not find it..got up this morning and went around with a magnet..i found it..now i know that was pure luck

There's a cheat here, I have had the plunger get stuck and was able to free it up (as long as the guide isn't broken). Take the cap off the ip, below that is another cap, you'll need a 12pt 5\8 socket. Then underneath that is the delivery valve and holder (watch the spring too) once that is out you can see the plunger. Rotate the engine by hand and that plunger should be rotating and moving in and out. If it doesn't rotate the guide is broken. If it rotates but doesn't move in and out it's stuck and can be gently tapped back in rotate and repeat until it moves freely.

FWIW: Some acetone in a ziplock bag with the stuck piece in an ultrasonic cleaner filled with water can sometimes greatly shorten the soak times. I try to get the whole part as clean as possible before trying that, and then watch the part for first few minutes of cleaning. Sometimes dirt seems just to explode off the "clean" part, at which point, I stop, pull the bag and part out of the ultrasonic cleaner, clean the part again, add fresh acetone to a clean ziplock with the part, and repeat. I just have concerns about dirt migrating into the part, especially on an IP.

All the best,

Update: I have my 2-002’s and 1-003 running great. I welded new bottoms on the tanks and am going to paint all 3. I installed digital gauges from an old member JimC since my CT was bad. Had to also replace the VR, that I purchased from @kloppk. Now on to the last 2 003’s that were seized. I have one free with no damage to cylinders. But mice had chewed a few wires in the electrical box. Good news is the IP is good and spinning as it should. Thankyou everyone for the help.

Let me know if you end up needing any engine parts, I've got 2 or 3 spare engines as well as loose engine parts.
