Maybe some of you badass wizards can tell what the problem is by the smell of the smoke.....? (J/K)
Steel Soldiers now has a few new forums, read more about it at: New Munitions Forums!
No it has bearings that can go out, when the compressor is not running it acts like an idler pulley.Mog..... wouldn't the A/C compressor smoke only if engaged...?
Yes and look for excessive play also.so the only way to check all the pulleys out, including the compressor one, would be to remove the belt and spin each one by hand...? would or should all of them turn freely...?

The AC pulley can seize with or without the compressor runningActually that would help. What did it smell like? Hot oil/grease, burning rubber, pungent acrid, antifreeze, plastic?
Could be something simply dripping on the exhaust manifold, or worse. I had a A/C compressor seize up, and smoke my compressor clutch and belt. But that would only happen if the A/C is running.
Mog you are correct, that seems to be the problem, with sunlight I turned on the engine (AC off) and started to measure the temp of the AC clutch, it reached about 300F and I knew that was not a normal operating temp, I shut down the engine and after a min or so, smoke started coming out. that is what happened. The AC pulley can seize with or without the compressor running
so sorry about the very poor camera moves, next time I'll do better (looking at the clip now I totally see what you meant)Your MTV camera skills left me dizzy and unable to identify exactly what’s going on. When you use a camera, you need to focus on one area and then move extremely slowly over the next 30 seconds in order to let people see what’s going on.
Anything from the air conditioning compressor to a leaking valve cover to a leaking exhaust manifold to a piece of rubber, pressing on the engine in that area could be the problem and unfortunately, your camera skills made everything confusing. Could also be something leading to the EGR.
Best of luck
