Hello all, I know there are a couple of threads on this already but I was hoping to find out something I didnt see answered. I have a M1045A2 and I would like to install AC, I am not particular or a fan of the red dots due to the big intrusive evaporator in the cabin and having to mount the condenser on the top. the wheel well condenser would be my best bet but before I go cutting into the fender is there a condenser that I can mount on the radiator like most cars and still have it work. also for those that have the standard front ac is one evaporator enough to keep it comfortable or should I look into getting a second blower/evaporator which would probably be the acme unit.

Big concern would be avoid Chineium parts if you can. I have an aftermarket system which is all Cinesium and so I get the privilege of replacing the crap constantly.

When you size a condenser, you have to be concerned about the size of the pipes (fittings) too.

I really am a novice, but I replaced the condenser I have that sits on top of the radiator on my M998. I used this one:

SF12-0731 - COND PF 18.75in/476mm x 29.5in/749mm x 20mm
And I had to hunt around for skinny electric fans to place on top. You will have to fab up mounting brackets.

And your also need the rest of the system, AC compressor and brackets,, evap, hoses, electrical,

Hope this helps.

My M1123 had the red dot system laying in it when I got it.
Like you, I hated the thought of having that ugly contraption on my truck.
I did a full retrofit with the fender mount system.
You can find just about everything you need NOS.
I went with the two man setup as it is really enough to cool the cabin even here in AZ. 20250416_120440.jpg

Thank you, I am happy to hear that the two man setup is enough, I had the concern that it would not be enough with a slant back. I would be interested in your process of installing the fender mount system. I know the TMs have a part list I can go off but any pointers, warnings, and cautions you could give me with your install would be great. Also really nice HMMWV.

Its not as hard as it seems. I had to search around for the measurements to the cutouts and mounting holes for the condenser unit but it was pretty straightforward after that

The two man condenser is mounted on the passenger side but these dimensions worked for me.

Download the Parts manual TM 9-2320-387-24P
It has the diagrams and part numbers/NSN to search on google and ebay to find what you need

My company pioneered the use and installation of the M11XX condensers with the Red dot AC evaporator…..I still have tons of parts for this application.
thanks, however im not going with the red dot evaporator due to it size and location, never was a fan, if I would go with the four man set up I would aim for the small black rear unit.

It is a sanden compressor. According to the guy at the phoenix AAPAC A/C parts house its the way to go. It came with the red dot system. The guys at AAPAC mad me some hoses while I waited that had sanden compressor ends and the GI block ends that attached to the evap bulkhead block and hard line to the condenser.

from what im reading the red dot compressor is the way to go. did you have the OEM hoses already and they just modified them to fit the sanden or did they make them from scratch. also im really divided on the 4 man and 2 man system only bc I feel my radio will block the only vent that could be directed to the back and ive driven it over an hour on the highway before and there are sections that are hot to the touch. and the inside is like an oven. i worry the 2 man will not be able to keep up.

I'm going to be installing a reddot system. with the hoses that go to the front from the Evap... should be fun, I have the Black Dog bracket and a great deal on a 5 groove V Pulley... Does anyone have a pic of a V belt truck AC Compressor install with a Sanden 508?

I had the OEM hoses for the acme. All new except of #1 and #8 were used as I needed to harvest the rear GM(?) style blocks to attach the new fabbed hoses to the evaporator bulkhead and the frame hard line. The harvested block also contained the low pressure switch

I also took my RED DOT lines as samples of the two sizes I needed for the sanden compressor. It uses O-ring/bead style connector elbows.

The shop used new hose and sanden style o-ring elbows with the high and low ports in the elbows to fill the system as the RED DOT had its fill ports at the evaporator. The ACME system had its fill ports at the block manifold(seen in that first pc) that attached to the other style compressor.

I just guesstimated the lengths of the hoses and was spot on with the smaller diameter high side hose but could have used an inch or two extra on the low side hose. The Angle of the harvested block to the bulkhead necessitated the hose to be directed forward and loop around the compressor pulley. I was barely able to clear the compressor clutch in two places

If you are worried about the 2 vs. 4 man just go with the 4 man. Its about the same to install just more money for the extra evaporator and condenser assemblies and the crossover pipes.

I didnt go with the four man because I rarely carry rear passengers and switch over to two man pickup configuration now and again and use the full length of the bed
