Best way to tow one CUCV behind another?

I was just wondering what the best/easiest/cheapest way to tow one CUCV behind another would be, assuming the distance is about 1500 miles.

Thanks :)

from where to where
Well, all the M1009s I have found so far are on the east coast. I am hoping to have the money by early December to buy my first rig, and I am worried about it breaking down on the way back. I figure instead of going out twice, once to look, and then once to take it home, I would be better off just buying two, and then selling one once I am back home in Washington. Get an M1008 or M1028 and the M1009 from the same base, then tow the M1009 behind the M1028. I figured that with the lower gearing the M1028 would be perfect to tow the other rig home.

sounds like a plan... and i've got tow bars here locally (still have m1008 for sale too)
You know, that M1008 sounds like a great deal, even with the blown head gasket. If I knew a little more about diesel engines, I would totally buy it.

When I go on this adventure, I would LOVE to barrow those tow bars :)

Not to burst your bubble, but FYI the chances of getting one (let alone two) good running cucv's from the same base/auction are not that great. Let alone a 1500mile long trip. Thats a LONG way to be driving something that you dont know the condition of, let alone have no idea on how to fix if something does break.

In regards to towing, you would be best off with a "medium towbaar" (military), its designed to tow anything up to and including a 5ton truck.

didnt relize you dont have much expierience with diesels let alone military diesels, i will offer this advice, find a good running cucv forsale privatly and buy it as a first, get to know it learn it and love it * dont let your better half fidn you fondling it otherwise you will be in trouble alot of it*from what i gatehr getting a running a cucv from the auctions that can safely make a 1500 mile trek right off without any hiccups is like finding a girl that never says no not tonight, if you do want to go that root though i would suggest having them shipped on a flat bed

I figured one of you guys would poo-poo on having him flat towing vehicles so close to each others weight. I realize the 1028 is heavier than the Blazer but not by too much. I recall hearing stories about some of you doing the same thing only to make a sharp turn or brake on a wet surface and have a hairy jack knife situation occur.

I know when I towed my 1009 behind the deuce it was like it wasnt there but the braking capability and the traction patch of an M35 are considerably different. Might wanna come up with a solid Plan 'B' in the event you win a truck or 2.

Just me talkin.....

I hadnt thought about how bad winter is in other parts of the country. This is still an option, but not till at least march.

Thanks everyone, I will bookmark this thread and come back to it someday. ^^
