Insurance for a mid 80's M35A2 in Georgia?

I'm looking for insurance for a mid-80's M35A2 Deuce in the state of Georgia.

Any Suggestions??

Approx Annual Cost??

I usually insure my "Toys" via Hagerty Insurance, as they have "agreed value" policies & a GREAT roadside assistance coverage. They are also very reasonably (i.e. "cheap") priced.
BUT Hagerty won't insure any military vehicle unless it is '74 & earlier, and it has to be garaged... (I could pretend it is garaged, but I can't fake the manuf date on the title...)

But I'm specifically looking for suggestions on coverage for a mid-80's Deuce (or other mid-80s military vehicle) titled in Georgia...

The year of the Deuce DOES seem to make a big difference....

J C Taylor has the garage requirement, has agreed value, will insure at least up to 1988 vehicles. You can get an online quote. Search 'em.

J C Taylor says locked garage. I don't have one that big, but wouldn't make a theft or vandalism claim under the circumstances. I'm mostly worried about liability when I drive it.

They're typically about $100 a year per vehicle. I'm looking at a quote now for 3 MV's, values 4K, 6K and 8K, and it's $251 for all three for a year.

Call Gulfway. Their only limitation is, cannot haul for profit. You can set your own agreed value. I have an agreed value of $5000.00 and it cost me $224.00 per year for full coverage with $500.00 deductible.

American Modern Collectors Insurance in Ohio covers my '85 A2 Deuce here in VA for $135 a year.

Have to have a locked garage and prove it with a pic. No commercial truck insurance. There is a 3,000 mile limit at that rate, but you can buy more. If I drive near that, I will add to my policy.

I checked with Hagerty & they would insure an M35A2 IF it was a '74 or earlier, & has to be garaged, for just $161/yr w standard MI plates, or just $61/yr with Historic MI plates. (I have historic plates on ALMOST ALL of my cars!)

I thought about just "pretending" it is a '74, as they all look pretty much the same... but that would be dishonest....

They also have the "locked garage" requirement. But I doubt they'd be sending anyone out to verify.

I would think that a barn would qualify. Just throw a padlock hasp on the door & call it a day.

I wonder if you went out & bought one of those portable RV "garage-like" covers and then threw a small luggage padlock on the zipper if that would suffice?? (probably would cost more than the M35...)

(The locked garage requirement is pretty vague... probably just a tool for them to be able to deny a theft claim...)


I also checked with my regular insurance agent at State Farm. They wanted to charge me commercial vehicle rates... $300.00 every 6mo w full coverage, $203.00/6mo w/o vehicle coverage.

Of the several different insurance companies I checked with, they required a picture of the vehicle in question, in the locked garage. That pretty much rules out a tarp shed, or open barn.

As far as the year thing, they will most likely want you to provide something from the DMV to prove you own the vehicle, so the year is disclosed officially.

They also generally have you sign an affadavit stating that this isn't your primary vehicle,and require that you give proof that you also own other vehicle(s) and they are covered by insurance as well.

If you don't want these limitations, the only option is to bite the bullet and tag and insure the truck as a "truck" and not a collector vehicle.

ACTUALLY, Hagerty has never asked me for this on any of my cars that they insure. BUT they might for something as big as an M35....

That is really interesting about Hagerty. I think they are the one place I didn't check with.

I don't always keep my deuce in a locked garage though myself, but I just pulled it into my shop and closed the door for the photo op. I am planning a new building soon, so it will be locked up soon enough. Just kind of a little gray period here for a few months!

I went with Continental Western Group. Very helpful and friendly and only $75 a year. They just asked for the address for the locked storage. I keep it there in the winter and outside at home in the summer while I work on the old girl.
