I just got around to installing my new starter, ordered from Nations auto elec., but my truck did not have the bracket on the back. I plan on grabbing one just to be safe, and putting it on. However, even with my small hands I had a hell of a time removing the old starter and installing the new. I don't know HOW I am going to get in to put the bracket on. Is there an easy way to get at it that I missed?

Oh, and I noticed that my new starter has a completely different sound to it than the old one did. The old one got taken out because it was disengaging mid-crank (drive wearing out? I dont know), but even when it was working correctly it sounded nothing like the new one. Is it normal for them to sound like two entirely different starters? It seems like a silly question to ask but I am curious anyway.

A failing starter of any kind will sound different than a good one, and the gear reductions sound a bit different. If your truck is running right, you should not be listening to starter sound, but the running engine. Seriously, if it is not starting right up, there are other problems, fuel delivery or glow plugs, most likely. You will wear out starters if these are not working.
