I found a nice set of videos on youtube. What is wrong with the deuce's engine? What is that clicking sound?

I'm sure glad my truck didnt come from Iowa:wink: My truck made a similar noise when it blew the head gasket on the air compressor

I noticed in the first vid that when they let the truck low idle it was blowing whiteish smoke. Looked like warm weather too. Im guessing that you shouldnt see any smoke with a warm motor on a warm day. Something very wrong with that motor.

And in the 2nd vid when hes near the end of the swamp the thing is blowing 4 different colors of smoke, white, black, grey, blue or a mixture. Sick engine for sure... I'm pretty sure the pump is turned up a bit, I've never seen a deuce smoke that much!

If I remember correctly, they sucked water into the air intake. I think that damaged the motor and caused the ticking sound.

They absolutely did everything the manual says not to do a M35A2 in the mud. They over sped the engine; they rocked the truck back and fourth in the mud bad for the drive train; they possible got water into the intake from the angle of attack they used in entering the mud. Basically, everything the operator's manual says not to do they did. Especially the last guy, who ran into the hole at 10-20mph and nearly flooded the engine's intake in the process.

The problem with the M35A2 is the lack of air-lockers. The limited slip diffs cause the driver to want to increase his or her initial speed when entering a mud hole or attacking a hill to keep the truck's momentum up and therefore maintaining traction between all the wheels. The problem is that when you do that in a mud hole with water, you make a wave that can swamp your intake, also you tend to plunge into the mud and sink deeper into it since your initial force is greater on entering the mud. If the truck had lockers you could lock up the diffs and enter the mud at say a crawl knowing that all wheels will have full traction no matter the speed and then maximizing your transmission's mechanical advantage push through the mud . That is why the Kraz 255b is a monster in the offroad world.
