I am trying to hook my M105 to my M1009. The problem i have is the electrical connector will not fit the the one on the truck (it looks like it will fit except for the rubber casing around the plug) any suggestions?

I believe it's different because the CUCV has the 12V light system and the M105 is 24V.
Am I correct?
Anyone?

I ran into the same thing on my m101, put some 3in1 oil between the metal and the rubber then it will go right in. Also have you swaped out the 24v bulbs for 12v? Safety is another can of worms using a 1009 to pull a 105.

You are correct. I just converted my M105 over to 12V. NAPA 1156 bulbs are what I used for my trailer.

I am not familiar with the military trailer lights, I need to convert a 103 trailer to 12v so I can pull it with My M1008 is the 1156 a single filiment bulb or a double filiment bulb ? I think I have some 1157. Also will the pintle hook on the back of the M1008 fit the ring on the 103 ? Anything else I might run into hauling this trailer - I don't mean the vehicle in front of me either since I won't be able to use the air over hyd brakes. Any help would be great -Thanks

Yes, the lunette will fit in the pintle hitch on the back of your truck. I don't know anything about the number of filaments, but I think converting the trailer to 12V is as simple as swapping out the bulbs for 12V bulbs. The only issue you may run into is the trailer is heavy...and may tend to push the truck in a panic stop situation. The M103 (gen set trailer, right) weighs over 2,000 pounds empty and that is a lot of weight to stop if you have a load on the trailer. The biggest issue with using the 1-1/2 trailers with a CUCV is that you have no trailer brakes. They tow fine with the pickups, though.

The military bulbs are double filament but they are just redundant filaments in case one filament breaks. They are filaments are both the same not like the 1157 with has one filament for brake lights and one for tail lights. If I remember correctly the 1156 takes place of the brake and turn bulb but you need another one for the tail light.

The following is from CGarbee's website.

http://www.garbee.net/~cabell/12voltconversion.htm

Bulbs used in the conversion are:
Application 12v Bulb Number 24v Bulb Number (what I had before converting) Small bulb in front marker lights and tailights, dash lights 67 or a 97 (both work) 1251 Large bulb in tailights 1156 1683 Headlight 55-60 watt H4 70-75 watt H4 Turn signal indicator (in switch housing) 1445 313

I've done it. Yeah, the lights are dim, but hey, the lights on the trailer I was using were so small and sunk into the metal that they're hard to see anyway, and I was just pulling around town, so I just didn't sweat it. The trailer wasn't even tagged, because a) the lights don't meet the minimum area for DE and b) the weight rating of the trailer is high enough that the brakes have to work, and without an air hookup, we can't prove that they do work. But, for our infrequent (like 4 times a year) usage, we just use it untagged.

A loaded M105 trailer is TOO HEAVY to be pulled without trailer brakes; an empty M105 is right at the limit. Also your 1009 does not have the weight or suspension to handle that heavy of a trainer. If it starts into an oscillation, you are in trouble.

Look for an M101; reasonably loaded they make a real nice trailer for something the size of your 1009.
