Welcome to the MV and deuce world. To really find out about these trucks it is a must to download, read, and know the technical manual and especially the basic -10 level manual. These are available electronically from the resouces section of this website (for free). You should also download the other manuals and use them for troubleshooting and repair parts searches. It will also tell you what type of turbo you have. I'm no expert and am just buying my own deuce but have driven and maintained these trucks in my previous life.

Good luck with the truck.

I bought my truck in Drexel Gardens IN and it has no heater, this guy is in Mississippi and he's got a heater... I'm jealous. Where did you buy the truck from on GL? As I've stated I got mine in Indiana which is really really close to my home in Louisville. Well not that close 100 miles. But I consider that really close when it comes to shopping online.

You should check the right hand side of the block as you sit in the truck. That will tell you all the info you need on the engine: make model, rebuild dates, ect.

Oh and here is a good starter manual read for when you pick it up.

You are trying to apply rhyme and reason to the Army. In Viet Nam ALL of our trucks had heaters; in Boulder, CO in the 244th Engr. Bn. NONE of our trucks had heaters.

Look at it this way, that saves you about 1 gal. of coolant and numerous potential leaks.

Well of course in Vietnam you need a heater... That makes sense.
