Transmission seal leaking

COULD BE... START IT AND RECHECK THE FLUID. COULD JUST BE LOW. (SORRY CAPS DARN DOG) if the TQ is out of fluid the pump will have a really hard time even moving because the fluid in the converter is what makes it move. No fluid= no move= no turn pump.

Success!!!....sort of. So, I started the engine and filled, shifted gears, checked repeat, etc. etc. Eventually, it starting shifting into gear nice and smooth, no weird noises. Yay!!! Then, I looked under the truck to see a nice big pool of ATF...ugh.

The whole point of this process was to replace the leaking front seal. Now, my only question is, is it possible to over-fill a healthy tranny and cause it to leak, or is the front seal still leaking? It is leaking out of the dust cover drain hole, just like before.

At least I can drive it now so I can take it to a tranny shop this time, if need be.

yes you can over fill it. check the dip stick and see where the fluid mark is. if its over full you can suck some out.

Dipstick says I'm still at least a pint low, if not more. Still leaking, faster when it's idling, and even faster when I shift through the gears. What the heck? I replaced that front seal, could it have blown out already? I haven't had it above idle for more than a few seconds. I don't think it was overfilled b/c I never got enough fluid in there to even come to the low point on the dipstick. It may be time for the tranny shop.

I've been laying on my back for 3 days working on this thing and I am back to square one. At least it will shift, now.

Yes, out of the upper edge of the bellhousing and out of the drain hole on the bell-housing. It pretty much has to be the front seal, doesn't it? Unless the TC can leak, somehow, I don't see what else it could be.

i bet the seal got messed up. you did wipe the seal edge down with ATF first before installing the converter? you want to lube it up so it does not burn out while its running dry till it pumps the fluid

Yes, I doused it in ATF before I put it in. I think what may have happened was that I was low on fluid the first few times I started it and only got the fluid level up today. In the mean time, maybe the seal got dry and burnt up.
