What is the replacement battery at the local autoparts store? Is there a direct replacement for the stock one? Are they the same as civi models? I want to call around and see if I can find a pair tomorrow.

Thanks,
Andy

well the stock battery is a 6TL. there about 150 bucks. There is no direct Replacement the 6TL is a 6TL. there are conversion kits from www.odiron.com to use a regular auto battery. I use just some huge ass top post and clamp them down with the stock plates. With a little reworking you can use just about any battery you want. Just stick to a big boy and you will be fine. Time to put your thinking cap on.......

dont skimp on the batteries, when I got my m1008 this fall it had no batteries in it so I went to NAPA and got the middle of the line NAPA brand batteries and they were fine till it got below 32 degrees this winter. They just dont have the juice to get it going in the cold weather, Im regreting it every morning. I will probably go and get the Optima's soon cause Im tired of jumping it.

yes you cant go to the NAPA and pick up 6TL's. you can buy them in the civy world but not too many people stock them. you can install different ones.. just pick a high cold cranking amp top post and give it a try.

I got 2 Neverstarts from Wal Mart. I would not recommend it. Spend some coin on good batteries. I spend most of my time taking a battery back to wally world for a replacement. I'm thinking of just taking it as a loss and getting new ones.

The battery tray was designed for 6TL or group 31. 6TLs have a poor warranty. There is a long thread about it. I have tried smaller batteries, but wasn't very pleased with them. I have had the best luck with NAPA group 31.

Correct, the CUCV battery tray is designed for the 6TL or 31, I second for the NAPA battery or a good brand name like Interstate, etc. Make sure and get the 1100CCA 31.

I have a set of Group 31's from AdvancedAuto. Done fine by me so far and they even replaced one after a boo boo on my part last summer. 6TL's are just damn big and heavy. Not worth the cost or hassle to run if you can get Group 31's. They're a common large tractor/equipment battery so a lot of stores have one or two on hand.

with all my equipment i get the largest cold cranking amp (CCA) battery that will fit the tray.

i dont care what its "calls" for i just go down to interstate batteries with the measurements and say give me the heaviest one that will fit the tray

1000 CCA in a 1947 jeep :-D its starts every time.

I also have the two largest CCA Walmart Everstart batteries, but with no problems, truck started in -1 degree weather yesterday after sitting for a week.
