What is the part/model number of the glow plugs themselves?

//on the off chance you have the wrong ones

edit - Also, how long are the plugs cycling when you start it up and can you confirm that you hear the gp relay on the firewall clicking?

if you haven't already, I'd suggest getting a digital camera and snapping a few under hood shots of anything you have touched as you may find you nudged something and one of the more savvy folks here may pick up on it.

plugs are wellman 070. the wait light is on for about 7-8 seconds. relay is clicking. i can take some pics.

not sure if its true but was told starting fluid could blow the head gasket. never used it.

Pull the glow plug card out so that the plugs don't come on, spray some starting fluid in the intake and then see if it fires. If it does, you are more likely to have a fuel issue than a glow plug issue.

The warnings about not using starting fluid are due to the automatic glow plugs. I guess it's easier to put on a sticker about how to never use starting fluid than a sticker about how to pull the card to disable the plugs.

Have you confirmed you are getting voltage to the relay and that the voltage passed through the relay when the key is turned on?

Have you pulled a couple of glow plug wires off and confirmed that they are still good? Easiest way is to pull the wire off and check for resistance.

mangus580, right on cooked plugs. 1 stuck, 3 swollen, one has a melted end. now i need to figure out what caused it.

Interesting, Wellman 070 glow plugs are not supposed to swell.

Three of mine did. Everybody says they don't swell, but everybody also reports that they do, in fact, swell. That said, none of mine were bad enough that they gave me any trouble coming out.

Huh, wow. I had a bunch of dead Wellman 070's in mine last year. Crap covered and definitely dead but none had swelled. Guess I got lucky.
