Weird Fuel Filter

I searched and haven't found any posts that answered my questions. I bought a new primary fuel filter for my deuce from Napa. I thought it would be a good idea to change it since I haven't replaced any of the filters since I got the truck from GL. I pulled my old one out, and it's different than any kind of filter material I have ever seen. It looks like compressed plastic beads. It apeared clean and the filter bowl was clean also, so I put it back in. I didn't use the Napa filter, because it's about half the size of my old one and didn't seem like it would flow all that well. Has anyone else seen a filter like this, or know where to buy new ones? Are they better than paper element filters? Is this the same filter ya'll are using from Napa? Thanks, Alex

I used the Napa filter in your pic when I replaced mine but the filter that came out was the same size as the Napa but the hole was much bigger in the Napa filter. The big hole creates a small problem but you can make it work.

If you do have a longer filter element, make sure you drain the secondary and final filters since water may not be trapped efficiently in the primary.

Oh that is an extra ordinary filter guys... How is that? is it really cleanable??__
From Busby SEO Test
The purpose of the primary filter is to make life easy for the secondary and final filters. It traps water and large particles and yes, it's cleanble if you use the one specified by the military.
The ultimate primary filter may be the "scraper" type shown in the image below, it's rated for the life of the vehicle (housing removed to show the internals).
