low geared

Dont mean to sound or make this a dumb question but I have a M1008 that I bought back in the summer and I just got around to putting plates on it but anyway it seems that 50 mph sounds like it needs to shift one more time sounds like its over reving at 55 forget it im afraid of blowing motor I havent put it in a shop yet it does feel like its going into third but i did not know if these wers geared so low I do relize that changing gear ratios may be the answer just looking for some advise thanks

Yep, the gearing is the culprit. 4.56 gears in the M1008. Not the best for highway use. You could switch to bigger tires to help it out some. Try some HMMWV tires on it.

You could swap in taller gears, or taller tires, or an overdrive trans. Disadvantages of the gear swap and tires, of course, are that you cut into the gearing, slowing acceleration and cutting down hauling/off road ability. But yeah, what you're describing is normal behavior. It's a truck made to haul heavy loads over rough terrain. If you want a cruiser, get a 1009, or any other car/truck that's made for highway cruising.
