What is the circular plate that has ID numbers on it on the drivers side of the grill. I think the blackout light illuminates it. Mine is missing and I would love to find one for cheap but don't know what to search for.

What is a bridge plate? Each truck is assigned a number that roughly translates into tons fully loaded. When crossing a military bridge, Bailey for example, the bridge will have a number posted on the approach to the bridge. If the truck's number is higher than the bridge, you are too heavy and will be turned away. You see these posted all over Europe even on regular roads. The letter "C" on the upper crescent of the plate indicates combination weight, like a tractor- trailer. There was an article in "Military Vehicles" several years ago that discussed this and listed the trucks and what number should be posted on the bridge plate. Cool military item anyway.

The blackout drive does not illuminate the bridge plate. At least that is not what it is supposed to do.

The Bridge plate tell you what the lowest class bridge is safe to cross !! If your truck is a class 8 then you must go over bridges that are class 8 or higher !! You cannot go over the lower number because you would stress that bridge an could collapse that bridge !! The vehicle -10 will give you the Bridge classifaction for that vehidle !! If the letter C is used it is for combination, of the truck and a trailer, that tells you what the lowest class bridge that can be crossed safely!! The black out drive light " DOES NOT " light the Bridge Plate !!! It is used to put enough light in the road to see the ground while driving in a convoy in blackout conditions !! Also It makes the vehicle harder to see from the air while driving at night in blackout conditions !!

Motormayhem, Have you read the TM's for the cucv's? The -10 is an operators manual.
A great man once said, "read your TM's in bed at night".
