In need of wiring harness

I have a friend that is in need of a complete engine wiring harness from the plug in at the firewall to the entire engine. He purchased a M1031 with maintance body with the welder and tools from a GL auction but when he picked up the unit a few weeks after the end of auction he found that some one has taken the complete under hood wiring harness, all of the tools, the dash guages and even tried to remove the windshield. He has sorced most of the pieces but needs the entire engine harness to the master plug in on the firewall but if possible he would like to find a new one or next to new as the truck has only 200 miles on it so it is basicly a new truck so if any one can help him with this I would appreciate it.

I would have refused to take delivery, since the item was not as advertised.

But, since that didn't happen, you can try to hunt up an old harness, or find a base model Chevy K30 harness in a junkyard from about the same year with the same engine and modify it as necessary for the military tweaks, or you can take a wiring diagram and start from scratch.

That sucks! I've had several things go 'missing' on trucks when I finally went to pick them up. I got a M109 from Lejeune and drove my M35 all the way there 'just in case' Good thing I did, some @#$!# stole the front cap and return line off the front injector, and the batteries and battery case. Had to tow it home.

Anyway, I would try wiring harnesses of Maine. I think that's the name, anyone else remember better than me?

He had a friend pick up the truck for him untill he had a chance to get it person so I am not sure if any thing could have been done about the missing components. Are there any dealers out there that specialize in the cucv trucks as I would assume that there would be a certain amount of surplus parts for that type of vehicle as with alot of the other MVs that are out there????

95% of the parts are available at your local auto parts store, just ask for Chevy K30 parts. OD Iron is commonly recommended for military-specific stuff, but I've never bought from them, so I don't know.

Conjecture and hearsay. Please post things you know are correct and helpful.
No local parts store is going to have the correct wire harness that he needs, it is military specific. OD Iron does not have the wire harness available.

Surprised you didn't suggest he just buy 2 rolls of wire for $5 each, and make his own.

Alpha Heaven is the only place that comes to mind, that I know of that may have the under hood, front harness you need.

Why is it that you feel the need to follow me around and crap on my posts? Just trying to prove yours is bigger? Try reading the first damn post I put in this thread, #3, where I suggested the MODIFICATION OF A STOCK HARNESS to the military spec. Or, yes, even the creation of a whole harness from scratch- the wiring diagrams are available, and we're not talking about rocket science. I'm sure actually reading gets in the way of your threadcrapping sometimes, but really, you just look childish. We're talking about VERY, VERY few, VERY VERY simple circuits that make the truck run. People that are too chicken to fix wiring on trucks like these crack me up, it's about a half a notch above changing your oil, but it wouldn't surprise me if people around here were too chicken to do that, too. And Christ only knows, if they did, they'd have to use surplus, military spec oil, because the stuff for the civilian trucks is obviously insufficient.

Second of all, he was asking about parts in general, and while people crap on me all the time for saying that these trucks are basically the same as any other K30, with a few minor tweaks, I've yet to see anybody ACTUALLY refute that. The only things that I actually had to buy that weren't regular K30 parts so far have been my glow plugs, and a rebuild for one of the alternators, but, oh, wait, the alternator uses the same guts as the regular, non-isolated ground equivalent.

Third, it's ALFA, not ALPHA. And the last time I checked with them about parts they said they weren't selling parts, just trucks.

This is the first vehicular forum I've been on that I've actually been attacked for suggesting that somebody ACTUALLY get their hands dirty and try to learn a new skill. Says a lot about the forum.

Please, I did not start this thread to start a fight between members. I posted this for a friend that would love to get an NOS harness as the truck is next to new and I thought there might be a surplus dealer out there that would have this harness and I do not know much about the cucv's. There are dealers for the M37s,M38s,M35s ECT out there I just assumed there would be a dealer out there that is specific to the cucv. I guess worst case would be that he will have to adapt, make a harness for it but would like to try and find a NOS one.

NOS is going to be particularly tough. Most of the CUCVs that get parts taken off are dismantled for sake of keeping other ones running, because the military doesn't want to buy new parts, and the stocks are getting depleted, and for parts like wiring harnesses that can be easily fabricated, I doubt they'd stock them, just stock the wires and diagrams so they can make up whatever one they want, rather than having to stock them for the various trucks. You may be able to find a used take off, but since CUCV parts are pretty much all readily available brand new at any auto parts store, there's not much of a point for a surplus dealer to specialize in them.
