So I brought my new wheels and tires up to my buddys shop and planned on mounting the tires on the wheels today, but i went out to eat last night with my parrents and now i have food poisoning, so needless to say i wont be mounting my tires today, so i get a phone call from my friend and i told him what was going on and he said that he had already mounted one tire on the wheel but he cant get it to air up, he said that the bead wont seat because the sidewalls are so thick, so i was wondering, have any of you had this problem? if so how did you get your tires to inflate, i have one piece 20X11 wheels and my tires are 15.5 80 20 ? what do you think?

Are the wheels designed for MPT tires or the standard bead tires? That could be the problem.

Even non MPT tires as they are should air up (and hold air) well on MPT wheels, which these most probably are!

Maybe the sidewalls just have flattened a bit from being stored stacked…
Tell your friend to use a “bead-up” tool. It’s very simple and safe to use, and cheap to make, too! (need a little drawing...?)

Also, cold (and old?) tires are pretty stiff to work with… heat them up or put them out in the sun for a while.

Keep on trying, it’s only a minor initial issue, I'm sure!

I don't know if it would work, but on car tires I've had luck with wrapping a come-along around the tread and tightening it up to balloon the bead out some. Then take it off when you get the bead to seat.

A great trick - SAFE TOO

Here is a freeby. Take a 20" bicycle innertube. Lube, lube, lube, lube it up and put it between the bead and rim. Put a few pounds of air in it so it swells and "seals" between the tire and wheel. Now air up the tire. Pull the tube out when the tire swells to seat.

SAFE and handy on the trail.

well, when i started feeling half okay and no longer had anything in my stomach to throw up, i went to my buddys shop, the tires had been sitting for a bit of time and they were cold so we layed them out in the sun for a little bit and then used a cheetah and that didnt work, then we used alot of tire soap and that didnt work, so we did what i did not want to do and used ether, well that worked first try. so needless to say a long day and many trips to the porcelain throne with wonderful food poisoning i now have my tires mounted. there are pictures of them in my Bobbed Deuce Bed Thread, Thanks for the help guys.
