Automatic idle?

Was just wondering how this is wired up as im interested in doing this, as well as a killswitch when i get the truck how i want it.

The ambulances at work have an automatic idle (which is connected to the high idle but i dont need that). Basically the truck is runningin park, you put on the ebrake and tap a momentary switch and then you can take the key out, and she stays idling. The momment the ebrake comes off or you even touch the brake the engine dies. Was wondering how this works, it would be nice to warm the truck out without leaving the key locked in it (a practice i dont like to do)

Your best bet for what you are talking about... would be a remote start system.

The biggest problem with the remote start on the CUCV, is in cold temps where you need the actual high idle, and throttle press to keep it going.... otherwise any diesel capable system should work.

Get a second key, and lock the doors when you need to leave it running.

If you really need modern conveniences, you need a modern vehicle.

my remote start on my Duramax has it set to turn on the power and wait 15 seconds for the glow plugs and then hit the starter. my truck never goes over 10 seconds on the glow plugs so that works out well. On my M1009 I have to wait sometimes at least 25 seconds for the glow plugs when it is cold.. and then give the gas pedal to the floor. I don't really think there is a way to remote the cucv and have it work. Well there is always a way but it would be like beating a dead horse. The money it would take and all the servos.... just get your butt out there and start it and head back in the house for a hot cup of coffie on the cold days.

OK... HOLD ON... WAIT A MINUTE...

You're worried about leaving the key in the truck, BUT you're not worried about the umpty thousand CUCV keys floating around out there that could be used to take the truck at 3am?

Not busting on you, just

Good diesel remote starts will monitor the wait light...

Westy, i mentioned having to hold the pedal to the floor issue.

For his purposes, it would work well though... when you want to run into the store, just press the start button on the remote, and turn the key off... MOST systems will leave the vehicle running then.

okay, let me clarify things a bit:

I dont want a remote start. I want the truck to be able to run Keyless, there are plenty of dirtbags around here and i dont like my truck running with the key in it. I also plan on a killswitch after i dump thousands into it. The ignition key has also been swapped out to a unique one. I dont consider this a "modern convience" as much as a security measure. You should see some of the POS FDNY uses this in, i would not call them modern. My truck drives way better than some of the fleet. So, anyone know how one is wired up? Thanks

Owning a few well used cars i've learned age always helps to make them run keyless. On both a 67 firebird and 90K1500 i've owned the teeth got worn down enough to remove the key. I think this even happened on my CUCV. see how much play there is in the ignition cylinder, it may work for yours.

and for high idle and the need to depress the pedal on cold mornings. my M1008 would always start fine with no pedal, even on cold mornings (coldest for Napa valley being right down just below freezing)

yeah some of the amblances keys are so worn i can do that, and so can my stepdads truck, but its been recently replaced so thats a no go, plus someone can still drive it away, would like the motor to die if the brakes released or the footbrakes touched
