installed winch brackets on deuce

Been a while since I took these pics, but I thought I would share them. In September, I got all the parts together for a winch install on my deuce. I bought Builder77's winch off of him 3 days before he died ( ), follow up bad news to that story is his winch leaks like a sieve, and needs all the bearings and seals re-done. Until I can get that done, I wanted to install the winch brackets anyways, mainly to get the higher bumper, and a meaner look.

Taking the bumper off for the winch bracket install was a pain in the a s s. All the bolts holding the bumper on were rusted solid, my homeowner's size compressor and 1/2 inch impact wouldn't budge them. I had to remove all of them by hand, with 1/2 inch breaker bars and socket sets. Took all day. The previous mechanic used Grade 1 bolts to put the bumper on - not sure why. Anyways, the bolt set for installing the winch brackets and flipping the winch cost over $100 just for the Grade 8 bolts, nuts and washers. I used stainless washers, I didn't see a need for Grade 8 washers, and I try to use stainless whenever possible to prevent future corrosion. If I have to replace hardware, I only want to replace it once.

Hope you all like the mod I made with the, uh, front end cargo. It turns a lot of heads! Even the local officers get a giggle!

Looks great. It might be hard for you later on to give that spot to your winch. It's likely that spot is utilized more frequently this way!

Looks good!
If/when I get my deuce stuck, I think what you have mounted in place of the winch would be what I would grab first. Drink a nice cold one and think about the situation for a spell. I did the same thing as you on my 65 M35A2 and I sure am glad I did not mount the winch and the PTO. Since I bought the 86 M35A2C I decided to mount the winch on it instead.

Mike, Is that the tow shackle brackets I sent you hangging underneath the bumper? If it is I wondered what you was going to do with them. Now I know .

Yup, that is where they went - I installed lower shackles along with the uppers for a quasi-M35A3 bumper look. The A3s have double the shackles, not sure why, but I got more places to hook onto.

Also note the dual steps, on each side of the bumper, makes for easy climbing up onto the bumper to check the oil. Previously, I didn't have any steps.

Excellent. I've got three sets of bumper ext/winch brackets and only two trucks. You'd think I'd get them on the trucks by now. How much are the bumper ext and winch brackets going for these days? I'm thinking about listing the extra set

I had them on a truck I sold but removed them before I sold it to go on my keeper. I haven't installed them yet but don't know what I'm waiting on. They do make it alot easier to climb upon the bumper.
