Safe Tire Size

I am wanting to get a M1009 but I would also like a M1008, But want I want to know is what would be the safest tire size for both of them? I am also looking for the best gas mileage too? I am looking to either get a 4 or 6 inch lift. I know the M1008 has taller gears, That would be the one I would put my 10 inch lift on.

Ok, that makes more sense. I would evaluate what road speed you wish to operate at and then work with one of the online calcuators to find the best option for your intended application. The stock gears and stock tires are fine in both the M1008 and M1009 for their intended use. Your intended use might be different. :-D

The m1008 can go large. Some units ran 36"-37" in the military. The M1009, in my opinion you'd be safest with stock because the gear ratio is only 3.08 and you have the gov-lock in the rear.

ok well im not one of those guys that will tell you stock are the best blaa blaaa ... and yes gears are high i run 33's on my 1009 and i can run that truck fine off road with stock gears and at high way speeds of 65-75 it does fine but i dont allways go 75 just when i need to blow someone away thats being retarted on the road..hehe... but you also gotta think the stock tranny dont like very high speeds. it gets loud.. i also know someone that runs 35's on there 1009 with no issues and after off road/and long high ways runs weve checked temp of the fulid in the rear ends and the color of fluid and what not there not straiing at all... if you go higher than 35 id look into dropping 3.73 or 4.10 's in im going to drop 3.73 in mine casue i want to be able to haul a trailor with it and more than a couple miles those 3.08 gears dont like loads.... but hey this is just my 2cents ...............joe

well what on are you going to get if you do the 1009 like i said 35 would pretty much be limit on stock gearing.... 1008 you can probally get away with 37 on stock 3.50 i dont know granted its not much a difference if your lookig at something that size id go with a 3.55 that would be a little better if you ask me

this is how mine looks with 33's.. i have stock leafs. shocks but added air bags .. the air helped alot on stance... im putting a true 2.5 " lift on it this spring /summer ..and thatll be plenty for me and im running stock 3.08 with no problems.. but like i said im going to put in 3.73 just for purpose of pulling trailor

On the M1008 you'd be good with stock gears but probably not enough power from the 6.2 for mudding. If you get a M1028 or M1031 you will benefit from a limited slip up front.

What he said. You can fit 36-37" tires up to 12.5" wide with minimal work on a stock(ish) pickup.

The axles are the limiting factors on the Blazers. 33's could be swung as many here show but 35's would be pushing it with the gearing, "Eh" axles, and the Grenade-Lock psuedo locker.

ok so i know this is gonna stir up a WHOLE bunch of SH*t..but ive always wondered since i found this site...why in the hell anybody would be into these "cucv" 's i dont know if theres diff ones but whats cool about a nasty old blazer? or a nasty old chevy truck..i guess its cool they have a diesel but most arent even turbo'd so ya..i dont mean to talk sh*t. but i just wanted to know...

I like nasty old blazers. I like buzzing around in my friend's fancy xj's too. At least in the blazer I don't have to tuck my knees up to my chin.

I've got 33s on mine and it is not too much of a turd in town.

Your not going to stir anything up. Its to each his own. Some like the military look and feel, some like their civvy SUV's with 20" chrome wheels with no-sidewall tires, others like there civvy SUV's transplanted on a radical suspension. Most of us here want a good strong 4x without spending too much $. Another plus is the CUCV is something the average guy can work on too.
