Not to mention for those of us into 73-87(91) GM's they're usually in much better condition and with FAR lower miles than similar civilian Blazers and pickups (not to mention civilian 1 tons are fairly uncommon).

I Second AJMBLAZER's statement. Here in the rust belt these CUCV's tend to be in far better shape than their civilian cousins, and almost always far less mileage. Not to mention reasonably priced as well. Given that they have strong drivetrain, stout brush guards and four factory shackle/lifting points, not to mention the D60/14FF w/detroit locker combo in the M1008s. If your into wheeling, that's alot of helpful/desireable stuff thats straight from the factory. Buy a civi truck and see how much it would cost you to get a hold of all that stuff. True they may not be as fancy or trick looking to some as a Jeep, FJ Cruiser or a Land Rover Discovery. But any time your on the trail nobody misses you and they tend to be quite the conversation starter. Plus I just think mines cool. so there.....:-D

Not to mention they are pretty bare bones. You can add plenty of stuff to them fairly easily from a stereo to a turbo diesel or an OD transmission. The parts are all there in the civilian vehicles or in the aftermarket. This is a lot better than starting with a truck that has slow power windows, power door locks that don't work, someone's hackjob stereo wiring and goofy speakers, ill maintained everything, blah blah blah...

It goes both ways at any rate...a lot of us fullsize guys look at vehicles like XJ's and go...what's the big deal?
(Of course I'm also a Suzuki fan so what do I know?)

I love my 1008. Been offered money for it more times than I have fingers. She isn't going anywhere. Is it a great offroad vehicle-no. It does however get me where I need to be, with no payment, cheap insurance, and minimal maintenance expenses. She always starts and is fun as hell to drive. That truck has been one of the best investments I have ever made.

The M1009 Blazers are 10 bolts front and rear. The pickups are Dana 60 fronts and Corporate 14FF rears (Dana 70's in the duallies). Horses for courses.

I think I can get away with 35s on a M1009. And yes that is why I want to buy the M1008 is because of the axels and how simple it is. No radio and stuff to take out to get messed up including carpet.

For the Blazer 33" is the maximum useable tire size with the 3.09 axle ratio. The M1008 can handle 9.00-16 or HUMMER tires easyly due to the axle ratio. 36" or 37" HUMMER tires need HUMMER wheels as well. It will not cost you performance. Anything bigger needs boby lif, wheel house cut out and simelar pain. And will not necessarily be good for the livetime of the trucks.
If you are a freack of lifted vehicles, almost everything is available with all the following pain of quick worn U-joints, loss of braking performance, somewhat tricky and risky handleing.
So it is your choise: Stay close to stock or accept risks.
