how to excite a 3kw onan MEP-016A genset

We have a 3k genset with no output. Where do i find the wire to excite the fields?

From TM 5-6115-271-14
Flashing the field without a switch
1. open or remove control box cover
2. Connect two 1.5 volt batteries in series and connect a wire to each end.
3. connect the positive wire from the batteries to terminal No. 20 on the voltage regulator.
4. start the generator set
5. momentarily touch the negative wire to terminal No.21 on the voltage regulator to flash the field.

Mine had no output when I got it. The diodes on the end of the armature were bad....

Jeez, and here I was going to suggest showing it some dirty pictures.......

Sometimes the field has to be flashed. This can be done after it is running by rotating the starting switch to "start" AGAIN. I have a Mep003 that requires this everytime I run it. My other doesn't need the flash. Just my experience.

Lance, I swear I was thinking the same thing...something about removing the quiet pack from a 10KW genset to excite the little guy, but I hesitated...!
