M416 Dump Trailer?

I've been toying with the idea of converting an M416 into a dump trailer and selling it. I have a civilian 1/4 ton hydraulic dump trailer that is pretty rusted out and an M416 that I could use.

Would anyone have a need for that or is it blasphemy to do such a thing?

Mike,
As you know, there are some folks that are purists and consider it blasphemy to modify any MV beyond its intended use. In respect to the M416, some folks have issue in cutting the rear for a tail gate because the M416 was originally designed to float.
That being said, I think loading my M416 is more difficult without the tail gate and would be much more useful to me, with one ( I don't ever intend to use mine as a boat). I have often toyed with cutting mine.
I think an M416 that dumped would be a great tool for a suburbanite that would like to go get 1/4 ton of mulch to use around the house and such. Not everyone has a use for a deuce dumper.
If building for sale, I would expect to see a well done M416 dump trailer in the range of $1000.
After seeing some of your projects, particularly the Unimog trailer, I am sure that you would make a superb and usefull M416 dump trailer.

Regards,
Rick

Go for it. I agree that it could be a very useful thing to have. And besides, if you want to do it, that's really all the reason you need.2cents

Rick,

Thanks for the compliment on my Unimog camper trailer. Did you ever see the M117 semi trailer that I converted to a bumper pull and added a 5' beaver tail?

As for the M416, this one has some rust holes and probably will not float. I just think it would be cool to have a dumping military trailer, even if it's only a 1/4 ton. Some Jeep nut might want it. A lot of people have cut tail gates into their M416 so if anyone wants to trade for an already cut tub, I would do that.

Thanks again for the input.

Mike

Mike,
I sure did, I remember reading of your travels picking up and delivering stuff with that trailer. It certainly gave you a lot of good service. For those that are reading this thread you can see this trailer in the classifieds M117 6 ton Trailer FOR SALE - Steel Soldiers::Military Vehicles Supersite
I mentioned the Unimog trailer as my favorite because I am into the "camper conversion rut" planning my M109, and I picked up a few ideas that I am going to steal .
Keep us posted if you choose to do the 416 dump conversion, I am sure to get a few ideas from that project as well.
Best Regards,
Rick
