Questions re: Requirements for Title, Plates and Reg in your State

Hi,

I'm polling for information on which state:

A) Accepts the SF97 as a bill of sale
B) Does NOT require a physical inspection for VIN or anything else

Your state will receive bonus points for:

C) 3rd party DMV services (hired DMV guns)
D) All the above (A,B,C) but with Historic or Antique plates

A big advantage of a private party purchase of a titled truck
for Michigan residents it is real easy with just a SF-97, and still fairly easy without one.

I think that you are going to have lots of problems titling in a state which, #1 - you arent a resident & #2 - if you arent there in person to fill out the paperwork.

I think that the best option for you would to be to title it in the state you plan to live in & use I.T.S. to get the title. The cost/headache savings will be tremendous.

Don't think so.

#1 There are situations like mine where non-residents need to title and register their cars in another state. I presume every state has rules that allow non-resident registration. Example: Parents with their child/student needing legal transportation to attend college out of state. So while I have a mailing address in Ca., I don't expect to have trouble getting plates elsewhere.

#2 California (and I assume other states) have licensed 3rd party DMV services. Think of them as "runners" for your DMV needs. Busy people use these types of services all the time so they don't have to stand in line. So physically standing in line is of no advantage that I can see, given my situation.

Regarding using ITS, I definitely value them as a resource, and will use them if I have problems obtaining an SF97 or if the state I end up titling/registering in does not accept the SF97.

I appreciate your advise, your suggestions are prudent. However I intend to make good use of the months ahead while I'm down here to complete the task of titling and getting plates on my new ride.

California takes the SF97. The DMV needed a cert from a weight scale, Bill of sale, " if its a RD party sale." and a check book with cash in the account. P.s. they need to see the truck too.

What do you gotta do if the state you live in requires emission tests? Are these fantastic MV's exempt from these, seein how they were once gov't owned?

Check the laws, The truck maybe exempt due to age or fuel type. All us government vehicles are exempt from smog, if not roll the dice and get it smogged and let us know what happens. Kalen.
