With all the recent and past reports of CUCV forklift damage, including my M1008 from GL, VA lets add up all the GL carnage. Both DS and body on mine. DS looked like a twizzler, door and fender crunched.

Of the ten trucks,(1009's) that I bought last year I don't think that one didn't have the customary forklift dent on the passenger side quarterpanel in front of the wheel opening and either the passenger door or passenger fender. This damage is also true for the drivers side if the passenger side escaped injury:cry: Also most of my trucks didn't have driveshafts.

I haven't picked it up yet but I won a m1008 at Redstone Arsenal. Wreckerman was by there yesterday and looked it over for me. He called and told me that is has the GL driveshaft as a aftermarket mod. I'm not really worried about keeping it stock but I think I'll replace the driveshaft with an original like it came with from the factory.

I'm in the rigging and machinery moving business so I know a little about moving stuff with a forklift. This kind of stuff really gets under my skin . While there are some good site folks with GL, every one I've seen on a forklift or loader would be fired if they worked for me. I think it all boils down to they just don't care.

Yeah mine had the GL driveshaft mod and they broke the Tranny to T-case adapter also. Anyone with driveshaft damage should check the adapter also in my opinion. The adapter, being bolted in, takes a LOT of the pressure.

Just picked up a M1009 from Tinker AFB for a fellow SS. The drive shaft was okay but the right front fender was hit. :x

I have had a little better luck on some as their forklift was down for a while in Redstone. My question is, how did they do it when their forklift was down? They have tons of buildings there with loading dock height ramps. They could simply drive or pull them off in their and tow them to the lot. Again it boils down to they just don't care about our stuff. The quickest and easiest way will always win out.

I dread seeing my five beautiful trucks I won last week once they actually get here.

I have had two bent driveshafts, one with a fork hole in the radiator and one where they broke the transfer case mounts, not to mention the various dents and bends.

Some of there personel suck, but other are nice. But the nice ones can't make up for a damaged truck.

It's a real shame these trucks can survive 40 years of use in the military and get beat up by 4 weeks at Gov. Liq.

That was my 1009 Warthog picked up. He didn't mention that the adjusting tube between the tie rods was rainbow shaped instead of straight. Not sure how they did that one.

My truck was fine, but both the others my buddy bought at that time had damage. One was just the driveshaft, the other was the driveshaft and cracked transfer case and transmission. All have plenty of dents and whatnot, never really looked for forklift body damage, because I just don't care, and neither does he.

My driveshaft on the M1009 was OK, but the crossmember under the transmission was bowed upward and twisted so the rear was higher than the front. This caused excessive u-joint angle.

I straightened the crossmember on a hydraulic press and eventually had a new driveshaft made. Luckily, no body damage.

Most of the damage is done before it ever gets to GL I have watched the guys at Redstone and they do a great job . I watched them unload a bunch of CUCV the damage was done be fore they got there . But I go to Redstone a lot. The guys at the DMRO are the ones that load them first and most of them are two stripers.

I was up there today and while I was waiting to get in the holding yard a big rig came in with two pickup trucks on it. I strolled over to check them out while they were on the trailer.
Both had bent driveshafts (one slightly dinged and one FUBAR) the one with the slight ding had the obligatory FL dent right behind the door.
One of them was real rust bucket too. I would not buy an M 1008 or 1009 nowdays without seeing it in person.
They do have a loading dock in the rear now but if the truck won't slave off they unload it the hard way.
I did notice that the FL operator was careful not to get the forks into the sheet metal when he lifted the deuces up so the truck driver could drive out from under them.
Since these trucks have been moved several times it is hard to determine who the guilty party is as far as damage goes.
Let the buyer beware.

It's not just CUCV's that are being damaged with fork trucks.

I recovered my second M1061 trailer last week that had one parking brake locked up. Since it was raining cats and dogs, I sprayed the parking brake cables with PB Blaster and pulled on the cable a couple of times to free them up.

Yesterday afternoon I got a chance to look things over a bit and found both parking brake cables crushed against the frame rails with the plastic wiring loom holders smashed.

I don’t know if it was GL or DRMO, as it does not matter at this point, just that equipment is being damaged that should not be.

Why complain at all. GL is not a quality pre owned used car lot. Everything is sold as surplus. They do not get paid enough to care anyways. They do what they can with what they have. I see a couple of other posts where people are complaining about GL. All its gonna do is make em care even less. I think they do a good enough job. they dont even have to make sure they run or even let you know the run, drive or stop. When the day comes when you need a hand in the GL lot and they say "tough $*&^" or when there is no info on the items up for bid then remember threads like these and ask yourself "would you care".

Why complain? Because it's asinine that people should have to put up with it. Could things be worse? Yeah, I guess, things could always be worse. But that's like saying "boy, I'm glad I have the flu and can't get out of bed and throw up every five minutes, and I can't complain one bit, because I don't have AIDS." There's a difference between normal wear and tear, and the expected "normal" dents and damage from a truck's two decades of military service, but unnecessary additional damage is, well, unnecessary, and some of us don't like to just bend over and take it.

then follow the instruction on GL. PREVIEW BEFORE YOU BID. its your own fault if you do not preview it. once they hit the spot where they take the photo then thats what you get. you are bending yourself over by buying sight unseen.

Or they could just take photos of the driveshafts and post them, since they know damn well that it's a problem area. But that still doesn't address the real issue, which is careless handling resulting in damage to property, which is totally unnecessary.
