These pics are of a Hercules LDT-465-1D. Picked it up in SC this week. Truck started up first lick and runs fine.....only NO oil pressure. Found out why (pics). Also, data plate is blank; no mfr or contract info. Ser # on frame is M-*****. The questions I have are: (1) can I replace just the section between the injector pump and the drive unit; and do I have to be careful about aligning the shaft in order for the injectors to fire at the proper time?
(2) The fenders are wide and flat, unlike the ones in any of my other deuces. Trying to figure out an approximate age. The truck has no rust, good paint, everything is straight, no bumps or dings, but has the older style mudflaps that hinge.

The hole is where the governor parts are, and yes, it was a gasser truck, the fenders and hinged flaps say 1961 or older. They can be as oold as 1953, usually not before that cause the 50,51, 52, models were specialty trucks, like wreckers and augers, not cargo trucks. they had m-135s and M-211s for cargo trucks back then. dont think thats the reason for no oil pressure maybe something that went wrong from no oil press. the oil pump is in the pan not the injection pump.that being said you probably have bigger problems than you see i'm amazed it runs like that.i'd start looking for a motor rather than put a injection pump on .only to find out still no oil pressure

So the fenders and hinged panels aren't normally on MF deuces?? Mine has fenders that look just like that, and hinged side plates, and the tag and VIN say it's a 1971... What are you guys talking about "gasser" parts?? I thought all deuces look just like the pics you're showing... :?:

Oops, hinged mudflaps... Still the fender difference must be subtle...

The fenders go into the engine compartment quite a ways and they are flat on top, thats what he was talking about with the fenders. The hinged side panels that you are talking about are on all deuces. They were talking about hinged mudflaps that were on the earlier trucks. I have also heard that a frame # starting with M means that it was a gasser at one point.

No oil pressure because of no oil. It's all over the bottom of the chassis, keeping it from rusting. The thing I find amazing, if it's THAT old, there are NO bumper dings, single coat of paint, no paint flakes....anywhere! No mud underneath, all components clean, other than the light film of oil. Guess I'll have to see what "Carnac" can come up with.

It has gasser fenders and the s/n starts with "M". I'd say that truck started it's life as a gasser. Check and see if the rear engine mounts are bolted or riveted. From what I understand, trucks that have been converted to mutifuel have the rear mounts changed and will be bolted it. It's at the very least a early '60s truck with a "M" s/n.

I think it is only the passenger side mount that is bolted...I forget. Be careful running that. Looks like the governor weights wanted out of their resting place. It can run OK, but there might not be any governing...like the engine will turn as much RPM as it wants to. I've seen some Bosch P pumps do that.

It won't be running long, without oil pressure. Does it still have oil in the sump? Where is the spilled/leaking oil coming from. The governor problem in not related to the oil. Sounds like a good clean truck, once you get the bugs out of it.

I would guess that at least it was towed into place for the PIC since the front cleaves where removed (indicating that they needed to hook up a tow bar). Maybe there isn't much damage from lack of oil.

well,the IP has a oil line from the block going to it in about that area so pretty much when that area went BOOM,All the oil went with it.That engine is toast!I would atleast pull the oil pan and check the bearings before i bought ANY parts for it.These trucks will run for a long while without oil.Soldier in Iraq had his oil pan shot out and drove 60 miles to safety before the engine locked up.But Just cause it will run doesn't mean it ain't damaged beyond hope after the first minute.

Will Wagner is right. The right rear mount will be bolted in. It was certainly a gasser before. VIN starts with M followed by 5 digits? If so I'm pretty sure it's a Stude.

I've got another assembly from a parts truck. Just have to firgure out how to extract it without taking off all the lines from the IP. They are rusty and TIGHT. Soaked them in PB Blaster, and will see if they loosened up any in the morning. Never had one of these off before and am not sure if I need to have the shaft and gears aligned in any particular order for it to fire the fuel properly.
