Here are the pics of the tags on my engine. The serial numbers match, the date on the IP, and turbo, and engine match. How can I know if this engine is an LDS-1A?

Long drive to find out. There must be a way. I understand parts can be mixed and matched, but all my dates are the same. Could it really be an LDS?

What side of the truck is the starter on? LDS would be on the driver's side - don't think it will fit in a deuce that way. The army ran out of replacement LDT's and used LDS's in their place, with the pump settings changed, oil pan reversed, dipstick moved, bellhousing changed, etc.

So....you probably have a LDS turned down to LDT settings - it'll probably run a long, long time that way. If you are tempted to turn the pump back up to the LDS settings (and timing) make darn sure your cooling system is in top shape.

Hope this helps,
David Doyle

rat4spd can you post more pics i want to see how that looks in there

What do you shots of? From what I've read, it looks the same. I just verified my IP does say LDS also.

Here's a couple of the engine and tach. GPS said about 56 MPH at 2500. I had plenty of pedal left.

Concensus seems to be that it's running at the LDS power level. I'll find out when I get some seat time later and put it under a load. I do remember when driving it home, on the small inclines we had, it never slowed down.
