Hi all,
I'm relatively new to the forum, I only joined a few months ago. About the time I bought a couple of surplus generator sets, but I have been reading for quite some time. The more time I spend on here the more I think I've been infected by the deuce bug. From what I can see/read this is a very infectious bug and there seems to be only one cure.

I'm seriously thinking about purchasing a deuce from GL but I had a few questions first. I've been reading the forums and looking around quite a bit but I wanted some real world advice. If I do buy one I'll probably sell my pick-up, honestly, since the price of gas has gone up I only keep it around to do work around the homestead. Mostly hauling lumber, stone, dirt or anything around the "farm". From what I've seen, the fuel economy would be very comparable, 12 to 14 MPG for my Ram VS. 10 or so for the deuce. Does this sound accurate? Another question would be more about reliability and longevity. If I get one I'll probably only run it a few times a month at most and sometimes just to keep things working and batteries charged. Are there any negative affects to letting it sit for extended peroids of time, and if I happen to buy one in moderatly fair condition (meaning some light surface rust) what kind of lifespan could I expect to see out of it with regular routine maintenance?

The idea of a multi-fuel diesel really appeals to me because I can use all of the oil's from the tractor and other cars rather than having to lug them all the way into town to dispose of the stuff. Plus I live far enough out I'm sure I could come up with some "neighbors" who would be more than willing to part with their old oils for free. Thanks for listening.

These trucks have been sitting forever in National Guard inventories not running much more than you expect to use one yourself. Maybe started up a few times a month and probally only driven for any real length of time during the two week deployments during the summer months. Regular maintance and a few miles a month is all the trucks really need to be ready when you need them to be. Cheaper fuel , collector rate insurance, capable of carrying 2.5 tons off road, easy to work on, all pluses in my book and evertbody who owns one. Get one you'll love it.

Thats what I said, 'I'll only drive it once in a while' Well I do only drive it once in a while..... to the corner store....in the next town.... to get a cigar and Peach Nehi, or to pick up a gallon of gas for the lawn mower, again the next town over. And ocassionally a couple towns over , a bit furethe to get a couple bails of hay, cause I can save a buck a bale, and you know we all got to save a buck. Then other times I'v got to drive by this place about four towns over to check on .....oh I forget, But it's important I asure you, and on it goes......... Infact I think I promiced to take my friend over a fiew towns from here to go to Harbor Freight, cause I just might need some black tape and zip ties, you never know, might as well be prepared, you can never be too prepared you know........

Haha, I just got plates for my first 2 deuces, and so I HAD to take one up to Home Depot to get some materials to make a license plate bracket and 2 cinder blocks for another project.
