I was looking through the lube order as my 1009 probably hasn't seen a grease gun in a while and for almost everything it says use gaa. What is it and what can I get to use instead of that as I am sure an auto parts store wont have it.

Thnaks,
Miles

As far as I know and have been told, there is no commercially available replacement out there. Seems GAA has some propietory ingredients in their grease. Some say Lithium is a replacement but have been told otherwise. Granted I am not an expert on this subject but I know there have been posts made on this. Did you do a search?

I searched, but all I could find were debates about what to use no definitive answer. What is in the gaa that makes it special? It seems like since the 1009 is a k5 at heart the civilian stuff should work just as well.

LOL I was looking at the "Grease oil and sealant" section and he has the military issue stuff that my squadrons hazmat office can't even get in stock.

Don't really want to order something. i just want a correct replacement I can get at an auto parts store tomorrow.
Any regular automotive grease should work for normal useage. The problem with the 1009 is that you need a grease gun with a needle fitting for the front shaft. You should be able to get an adapter that will fit your regular grease gun at your auto parts store. Pull up the Lube Order in the Resources Section to make sure you hit all the spots.

Ok well I got some grease that seems to be the most recommended as the substitute for gaa despite the constant debate. In the LO I sees the cv and front drive shaft need greasing and I cant find the one on the drive shaft. I know the CV needs the needle to grease it but I don't see and hole or fitting on either one. Is the one on the drive shaft under the ruber boot? I didn't want to take it off unless I had to. Those clips look hard if not impossible to get back on.

The one furthest to the front is on the u-joint. If you can't see it you may need to jack it up and rotate the shaft. It's a tight fit so a flex hose is easiest to use.

I'm not sure about the one needing the needle fitting.
