M543 Engine question

Hello All
I have just picked up a M543 and drove it about 300 miles home. I have to say I have traveled the same route several times in the past but I have never had so much time to see the sights as I did on this trip. My wife followed me in my pickup and it was driving her nuts to go so slow. 35 to 40 mph all the way home. It felt to me like 55 to 60. ;-)
Is there a difference between the multi fuel in a M35 and the multi fuel in a M543? I'm asking so I will know where I can look for parts when needed.

Thanks
Van

There are some differences. And believe it or not the M543 motor has more power. The motor should be a LDS 465-1A in your truck. Those trucks are so heavy they just cant get up to speed. If it seems real doggy maybe change the filters..

Good looking truck! Yes the motors are basicly the same, some small differences. 130 hp for a deuce, 180 for the 5ton. What parts do you need?

I noticed the power almost immediately. Acceleration and power is fine. It would pull the hills nicely. The speed is being limited by the governor. Thanks for the reply.

I'm not sure what parts if any I will need but I know that I'm not developing air pressure. I need to get maintenance manual for this one and my M818. I was going to start at the compressor governor. I don't think it is a leak but I may be. If it is a leak it’s a big one that isn't making much noise. It will be a couple of weeks before I can dive into it.
Thanks again

They are famous for air leaks.. There is a air valve on the trans that likes to leak on most truck. Sometimes you need to rock it back and forth from 1st to reverse and maybe hold it in reverse until it can build up pressure. Check your rear glad hands and air tanks too. . Air tanks like to crack and the glad hand valves get turned the wrong way.. :-D

If you don't air pressure..............don't drive in reverse.........kiss that sprag good-bye.

I just changed out all 3 of the lines for the tranny. The feed line and the two going to the T-case. Also, a new one for me. The cylinder bolts were all loose on the T-case, and it was leaking there.
Thanks Westfolk. I have done a test on my 813 and found that without air pressure the sprag is in the neutral position. In fact, I'm going to add an air valve to my trucks so I can manually engage the sprag. I will be able to select forward or reverse but the manual air valve will normally be in a position that will keep the air from getting to the sprag.

Here is a link to a test I did a while back. http://www.steelsoldiers.com/5-ton-up/31288-tested-my-813-transfer-case.html

Thanks again
