Some may remember my trip to Hooks, Texas, RRAD, to pick up the M35a2c. I drove it back to Telephone, Texas, in September, 2008, by just starting it up and heading home. The ultimate macho recovery.

Well in November NO BRAKES! about the third time it was moved around. I began planning to work on the brakes, what to get and so forth. This is on a very rural location, 15 miles from Bonham, Texas, a long way to tow a deuce.

Got too cold then it got too wet to go up to the farm. Finally, today sunny and warm weather, finally.

In the mean time I got to thinking, I really had not checked to see what specifically was wrong.

So, today I took a gallon of DOT 5 with me. Filled the MC.

You guessed it. Brakes working fine. Low on fluid. I guess I should have checked it before I drove it the 150 or so miles home.

I have new wheel cylinders and such. So, we keep an eye open for where it went. I suspect we will find out in the not distant future.

Dear DABTL:

There's an antique car show in Paris, TX at the Love Civic Center on June 13th (June 14th Rain Date), sponsered by the Red River Valley Antique auto club. The show is to help raise money for a Veterans Memorial Gate to be built at the Civic Center to honor the military veterans of N.E.Texas.
Get that deuce running and bring it over for display. You can park it alongside my 1971 Kaiser Jeep M35A2 Wo/W "Saddam's Nightmare" to show them the difference between Woodland and Desert Camo. :-D This is, unless I have shoulder surgery before then (likely), then I might not be able to get my old girl to go the 4 miles from home.
Mine has a rear main seal oil leak which I am going to try to get corrected before then, and Brian Bull was kind enough to send me one of his Air-o-Matic steering kits, which I will likely be needing shortly anyway (Thanks Brian, great job and great deal):-D:-D:-D

Keep the stiff upper lip, you just picked a bigger then average pickup truck to work on (That's what Texas calls my M35A2, a 13,480 light/23,480 gross weight pickup truck)!!!

Cheers,

Kyle F. McGrogan

N.B. When I first got the Saddam's Nightmare, she would leak down her reservoirs (air) in a few hours after shut down.... now she'll hold air above 60 PSI for about 24 hours after shut down...WOW!!

I actually have two deuces of my own here in Denton. Paris is bit of a chore to reach from here in a deuce with an old guy driving. I have been giving some thought to coming, however.

My own needs three new wheel cylinders and brake shoes. I have them all either in hand or on the way. I will have that remedied before I make up my mind to ride the road.

We might get the M35a2c over at Bonham there, however also.
