They are what they are . A deuce is like a mini pickup with no options and the 5 ton is like a ton dually with options . It's what you want or sometimes what you can afford . I drive a semi at work so a 5 ton is normal for me . The mileage doesn't really matter I'm not going very far anyway . I just flat out like 5 tons better BUT , them deuces sure are cute little things aren't they ? OK flame on !!!

I really like my Deuces, I really like my 5 Tons. After driving my XM816 2000 miles from MN to AZ 2 years ago, getting in one of my Deuces was like driving a sports car.

For pure driving satisfaction, I drive a Deuce!

everything has its place.five tons are nice as long as you have a cdl and the comercial insureance to go with it .you can put power steering and a deuce .you can put a stronger motor in it .the deuce will be more manuverable faster and cheaper to own and operate.plus intial investment is much less.not many of us using them for personal use need something heavier than a deuce.i got 13mph with my deuce pulling a m105 with the cover on the trailer doing 70 plus the whole way to haspin.so i guess if you need a dually with options.it will cost you and when you get it stuck off road make sure you have plenty of snatch blocks cuz noone else will be able to get you out

With regard to CDL, some states, like AZ, zero out the weight on the registration when using a Historic Commercial Plate, same cost to register as my VW diesel rabbit pickup (caddy). Would be the same for 2.5 Ton, 5 Ton or Larger.

Are you running an LDT Multi?

What tires are you running?

What engine RPM?

five tons don't rule the hemmit rules so i gues we all have toyota or jeeps talking about whos 33s are tallereach one does something better than the other one its a trade off so i dont really think you could say one is better than the other just that they have different uses.get a hemmit and i wont argue you in any way

If I was concerned about: Comfort, Mileage, Drivability, Etc. I would not drive an MV. I guess I would not have antique cars and airplanes either. Since my Deuce is a vehicle that I don't have to drive, but I want to drive, I'll keep my stinkin' under powered, hard to drive, uncomfortable, crappy Deuce (and other toys).
Enjoy your 5 ton, I hope it is not just making up for something that you are lacking.

I love the 5 tons, but I own a duece. It does all that I could ask of it, and a bit more on demand. But someday.......someday.......there is a 5 ton in my future!

( P.S.) Only with us guys in Steel Solders would anyone refer to a 2.5 ton Duece as a "LITTLE TRUCK" You got to love it!

That's impressive. Do you know the diameter of 15.5s? Maybe I should purchase a set. They must be larger than the 395s.

With my 46.7" Dia 395/85R20s I'm only traveling @ 61 MPH @ 2,500 RPM. I'd have to run 2,800 RPM to get up to 70 MPH.

13 MPH @ 70 MPH pulling a 105 trailer is outstanding.

I love MV's big or small ! My club has this running joke on which is better deuces or 5 tons . They both are great and it's fun to fan the flames . It's funny because some guys take it so personaly . I like to stir the pot and then sit back to watch it boil ! My 5 tons don't seem big to me I drove Steve's M123 it was big but not a very useable truck to me . Then I drove James's M1075 , that's my high standard for big trucks . Till then I'll own my little 5 tons . HAHAHA I love this site !!!

Well,having driven a few of the "common" M series MVs( M38,38A1,M37,M211,M35,M35A2,M52,M54,M52A1,M54A1,M816,M813,
M817,M51A2,M62A1) and several others a few on long trips,I gotta agree with Joe on this one. The 5 ton truck, even more expensive to operate, seems more "driver frendly" vs a Deuce.As far as the noise is concerned,the 800 series seems MUCH louder than a turbo deuce. Power steering is definetly a plus and the increased engine power is definetly a good foundation,(multifuel 5 tons are exempt from this statement,NO POWER!!) Basically,If I have to do a long distance recovery or trip,I'll take the 5 ton every time.Especially when towing a Deuce,the extra "come with me" attitude of the 5 ton is piece of mind.

We have both M818 & M35. Well 3 if you count the bebbed one. I really really love my 818, but I wanted a cargo, and a 813 is too big for my needs, so I put a deuce bed on my 818!!

yes 15.5s and 395s are the same height but i have mine mounted on stock wheels which makes the treads bow out thus giving you a bigger diameter.also 15.5s have more plys and a higher weight rating thus making the side wall flex less.all of these things add up to better gas milage.if you run the same tires on a five ton you'd probably only get 8-9mpg so deuces are better
