Picked up a spare deuce engine today, I know it is a good runner as I drove the truck it came out of.Think I'll put this one back in the barn for later if needed.Looks like a fairly new tranny hooked to it too, bonus!

Make sure that all the coolent is drained, fill the crankcase with good oil. Put dessicant in all the openings, intake, exhaust, water jacket. Seal up all the openings with plugs and tape. Put it somewhere where you won't bang off parts moving other stuff around...

The dessicant will draw out the moisture that is in the engine and keep cylinders from freezing up.

You want to really do it, build a stand, hook up an external oil pump, and once every month, unplug the intake and exhaust, run the oil pump, and bar the engine over to get flow through all the bearings and keep the surfaces smooth and coated. Put in a really heavy oil, like 50wt or even gear oil. it will coat the surfaces and stay there longer. At least that's how we laid up engines in the Navy...

I store mine in cans and run them every couple of months. The cans have dessicant bags but I'd like to find more!
