Worked the Deuce today

Pulled out a pine tree stump today - actually two of them to be exact. The first one was easy and with a chain through the pintle hitch. That second one was a bear! My neighbor came over with one of his pieces of heavy equipment and dug around the roots of this stump but it still did not want to budge when I used the chain method and then the winch method. After working with my garden hose and my Stihl Farm Boss chain saw I managed to cut through the roots that held the tree and I winched it out with little difficulty. Every time I think I want to sell my winch truck I do something like this and it justifies keeping it a little longer. If anyone says they pull stumps out with their deuce just by hooking up to a tree pulling your leg! Now if I could only figure out a way to use the truck to fillin the hole.....

My neighbors would complain if I tried that technique! These trees definitely have strong root systems! During hurricanes, they act as a wind break and that helps keep the roof on my house. I have these all around my house but the problem we are having is pine beetles - that's what happened to this tree.

I learned the hard way that once the tree is dead but before it gets too dry, I either winch or strap it from about 20' up. The extra leverage brings it right over and then a few saw cuts and it's done. For those with a wrecker, I snatch up the tree with the crane, tote it out to the street and cut it there so I don't have to toss the stuff twice.

Awesome Kenny! If my buddy across the street didn't bring his equipment over I would never have gotten that stump out! I really wish that I had about another 10 feet of tree for the leverage part but that thing had died and it snapped off near the bottom. I hope I don;t have to go through this again!

Talk to your county agricultural extension agent. He can tell you the best way to treat the trees to prevent or kill the pine borer beetles.

OK, I KNOW THIS IS GETTING OFF TOPIC, BUT...

I have 400+ Pne Trees on my property & I just had them treated with ONYX to prevent Pine Bark Beetles.

My tree guy dilutes the ONYX with Diesel Fuel and sprays the lower 10-14feet of each tree trunk. The Diesel helps the insecticide to better penetrate the bark.

Normal cost for this is approx $5-$6 per tree.
But you can usually negotiate a big discount for large quantities of trees.

IF you don't want to use the insecticides your other choice is to cut them down & burn them or haul them away.
Good thing you have the Deuce!!
