Talked to GL Mike and he will be waiting for us at the lot between 08 & 830 un Jefferson City, Mo. Hope my -10 is still on the seat. Got all the stuff loaded on the 5T recovery list. Plus FRS radios , the big honking tow bar in case one of them goes south and the digital camera. Looks like a cool front is moving in so should be a nice drive back to Kansas, yes I am knocking on wood. Anybody else going there on the 28th or need something looked at? I'll post the pic's tomorrow evening more to follow.

Pick up today

WE (Peter both our 18yo sons & me), GOT THERE AT 0805 TODAY AND MIKE WAS IN HIS OFFICE AND TOLD US TO GO AHEAD AND DO OUR PMCS and he would be at the lot w/ our papers. WE DID THE -10 WALK AROUND AND CHECKED FLUIDS W/ THE LO. Every thing was going smooth but had to move Peters out of line to finish. Both fired up but Peters would not build air, found front emergency valve cracked open and air tank drain line had split in it. Did a temp repair with chem tape, got air up to 60. We drove down to the outside the gate so Mike could leave, (THANKS MIKE). Went into town and got a plug to fix the patch job. Went to town and fueled up then drove 20 miles did another walk around, everything still good to go. Got another 90 mins down the road and Mother nature said hello!! Soon the rain got to heavy to drive and had to pull over with everyone else for about 10 mins. The rest of the 2 1/2 hours to Ks was in light rain. Having road tread on the front of both trucks really helped. Thanks to all that came up with different items for the recovery list. We lucked out and only needed rags, gland hands and the handy mans secret weapon, DUCT TAPE!:-D Oh and thanks, my -10 was still on the front seat!
A 5t is 2X more fun than a Duece!!!!! I'm a convert!!!!

Nice looking trucks. Nice to hear things went well without any major problems. I got my deuce from there back in April. They where hauling in a bunch of the 5T tractors while I was checking out. Mike and the guys there where real nice to deal with.

Very nice write-up! It is great your son shared it with you.

I think I stopped at the same gas station to check things out on my recovery last week. (It rained on me too.) Glad you made it home safe.

I keep seeing references to a "great list" for picking up a 5 ton similar to the deuce sticky. I have yet to find this though. Any pointers in finding it?

My EUC just came back for my first two M818's out of Annville. Will post pics and photos of recovery which may happen as early as Friday.

How well to these things towbar? I've got a heavy towbar and was thinking of yanking one home with the other.

Eco.

It's dead now and was on the old site, it is basically the duce list with power steering fluid added. The main thing I have found that helps is having the LO and doing the pre checks out of the dash 10.

They tow very well. Unlike a Duece, if you hook up the air lines on the front of a five ton, when you apply brakes in the towing truck it also applys the brakes in the towed truck. If you are towing with a truck that has a hand valve then you can apply the brakes on the towed truck by pulling the hand valve. They also seem to steer better than a Duece. Most Dueces will not follow a turn on dirt. I had to drive an extra 50 miles to last years Ga Rally because I missed a turn and could not find a paved lot big enough to turn around in. Kenny towed a Duece to the same Rally and finally tied the steering wheel and drug it around turns to keep from having to stop and straighten the wheels.

Recovery went well. Towed one M818 with the other out of Annville yesterday using my heavy towbar. It pulled really well and straight even on dirt, gravel, and grass. Not a lot of power though up some hills. 25 tops towing just the 818. But we made it. I'll start a new thread on the recovery soon with pics.

Thanks for the advice. I too had problems towing the deuce on dirt, but great on pavement.
